From memory, it originates from Mahon, the capital of Menorca.

Westport and it’s environs are fabulous but disappointed to discover there were no ‘lock-ins’ in any of the bars. Not in 2001, anyway, when I went.

Westport is a nice town in Mayo, worth checking out if possible, nice mountain close by called Croagh Patrick, if you're lucky weather wise can get a great view of Clew Bay, should be able to get ferry, again weather permitting, to some of the nearby islands from Westport too.

Inisturk, Inisboffin and Clare island are three nice islands off Mayo's coast.

Enjoy your trip, planning a few days there myself soon.

I have a Irish friend called Owen. Played golf with him frequently for about 8 months before I saw that his name was spelled Eoghan...kind blew me away.
