Off to the west of Ireland next week, hotels in Westport but got a hire car and want to spend a bit of time in Castkebar.

Any suggestions for places to drink, eat. sightseeing within a reasonable distance.

Want to see the cliffs of Moher, anywhere good to stop there?

On my list to visit.
Wife's side of the family hail from County Mayo.
I have looked into costs as to whether to fly and use car hire, or drive via Holyhead. Cost of hotels is a bit on the steep side.
All in all, not a cheap do, but will get around to it soon I reckon.

Make sure to check the weather forecast. That place can get real foggy making it a pointless trip.

cheers only an hour away so will try and check it out

Keem Bay is superb (well, it's a superb beach, there's sod all else there). The fishing around the island is ace. Atlantic drive is good also (again spectacular scenery). The food in Alice's in Achill sound is good, and there's a decent restaurant in Keel overlooking the beach (can't remember the name). Check out the deserted village at the foot of Sleivemore Mountain. You'll find that a very common family name on the island has recent links to Everton. I'll let you find that one out for yourself. Enjoy!
