Coulson/Murdoch phone hacking crisis - Britain's Watergate?

This will drag on and on. When you look at the breadth of the people they've upset: Royal Family, ex PMs, actors, etc etc...thousands of people seeking damages...there's no way this gets sorted quickly.

Murdoch hauling ass over here from his lair tells you all you need to know - the Establishment have been rocked.

Why will Cameron be bothered? All it means is he was lied to by Coulson and he'll play the "outraged decent man" card.

Much ado about nothing to be honest. Some journos will get nicked, big whoop. Won't affect politics at all.

Labour are pressing on with this "Cameron lack of judgement" crap, but it won't wash. Granted it was a bad call but big whoop.

Well, number one: people will say that for a PM to gamble on a man embroiled in the NOTW scandal it shows him up in a bad light - a man who's supposed to be doing politics by consensus with Coalition partners chancing the employment as right hand man of someone like Coulson, who is the antithesis of that type of culture. Politically it wounds him. Number two: the fact that Murdoch's NOTW under Coulson's editorship were spying on Labour Party heads leaves a trail into Downing Street. Many would wonder just how much connivance there's been between the Tory Party and the Murdoch press.

It probably is all 'Beltway' stuff and wont have an impact with the wider public, but it certainly compromises some big power players and what they do - for instance, Murdoch's NewsCorps' BSkyB takeover is looking pretty grim now.

I dont know this is now bigger than coulson tbh,its about the police handling of the case which seems odd to say the least and as such the Met surely HAVE to be taken off the case and it handed over to a neutral police force?.

Now if theres no wrong doing then fine Cameron will walk away pretty much scott free and untainted by it but if things go badly then huge questions HAVE to be asked by parliment at why our PM chose to employ a man under suspiscion of these alleged wrong doings.

This story will run and run and could well have huge implications for the current PM potentially at least.

Of course if wrong doings (or better yet if not) are established then maybe this is the time for all 3 main parties to move away from Ruperts thumb, will that happen..yeah right.

So basically, two-bit journalists are able to access the prime minister's voicemail. What are our security services actually for?

Hacking a few boring peoples voicemails akin to bringing down a US president? I don't see the correlation

Hence this:
