...A united Yugoslavia?
There in lies the problem, it was always just a political construct held together by Tito

I remember one of our youth players (I'm a City fan) from Slovakia, laying claim to them winning the 76 Euros. The team contained 8 Slovacs + 3 Czechs, although Panenka, who gave his name to the famous chipped pen was one of the 3.Here's an unrelated question, but one that I've always wondered
Czechoslovakia won the Euro's in the 70's didn't they? Now who lays claim to that title? Czech Republic or Slovakia? Can they both claim it?

Probably a bit past it now, but a few years ago, throw in Vidic, Vucinic, Ilic... ?
Left out the best of the lot, Dragan Stojkovic. Maestro. As a forward Darko Pancev was handy too.Germany battered them 4-1 first game. They would have had a better chance in 94 but that was after the break up. Players like Jarni, Suker, Mijatovic, Savisevic, prozinecki, Jankovic, Boban et al.
When you consider how boss Rumania and Bulgaria were at that WC it would have been Eastern Europe's finest hour.
Again, superb in midfield and attack but possibly lacking in defence. However Croatia finished 3rd in 98 so who knows
Still remember that game against Spain and his two sublime goals.Left out the best of the lot, Dragan Stojkovic. Maestro. As a forward Darko Pancev was handy too.
Technically they were as good as anyone, probably lacked that defensive steel you mentioned, something that Germany had in abundance. A Lothar Matthaus for instance, one of the most complete midfielders ever. He's the only one I can think of that was world class both defensively and offensively.
Superb player. Was he still going in 94? That was what I was referring to when I rolled off those names. My memory, like nostalgia, is not what it used to be. He was defo the star in 90Left out the best of the lot, Dragan Stojkovic. Maestro. As a forward Darko Pancev was handy too.

He was still playing for Yugoslavia 4 years after that and captained the team at the World Cup (not as attacking then, sat back more and just dictated play with his passing). In his prime he was on a par with Hagi for me, with M.Laudrup/R.Baggio only just shading those two (in terms of European no. 10s).Superb player. Was he still going in 94? My front six would be, Stojkovic, Boban, Savicevic, Prosinecki, Suker, Boksic.
Jugovic probably just edged out by Prosinecki, likewise Mijatovic by Boksic.
The defence I wouldn't be sure on (tend to focus more on the attacking play), though Jarni (fabulous left foot) and Mihajlovic would be in there. The likes of Vidic and Matic would really compliment all those technical players.
