Corners

There are plenty of areas we can improve next season and here is a big one.

I thought our corners this season were the worst in memory. A lot of rally poor deliveries and no end product.

I struggle to remember goals coming off them - Barkley at home vs Swansea maybe.

Why were we so poor in this area and what is the solution?

To take better corners ?

Lukaku also scored against RS. 2 that's it.

We don't score headers anymore after Tim Cahill left. And we are not good at all when defending corners.

Lukaku vs RS, Barry vs Fulham and Barkley vs Swansea are the only corners we've scored from this season.

All were Mirallas deliveries. He should be our main corner taker for me.

We should go short on every one. We're rubbish when the opposition pack their box with defenders. Short corners would pull the oppo out and let us create a proper chance.

No but seriously its not something we don't already know. Its been mentioned many a time before, we are awful. Given that we have a squad of players that are superb with the dead ball, its rather surprising. Actually its alarming when you think about it, as players like Jagielka and Distin usually pop up with a couple of goals in a season

Spot on that. We seem to be mixing it up with the players taking corners this season a bit too much, whenever we used to get one you knew it would be Arteta, nailed on, then it was Baines. I've sometimes seen Bainsey, Mirallas and (I think) Deulofeu all in one game. It always looks like a player need 1 or 2 to get the play right, so stick with one.

Really need to address this. It didn't improve over the course of the whole season and it's a major issue. The RS must have scored 12-15 goals from corners at least, with Skirtingboardturtle getting what? 7 or 8 alone?

We get a lot of corners in many games; I can recall a few games recently with 16 or so corners going our way. But we're so bad there's more danger of us conceding on the counter than actually scoring from one. We may have had the highest scoring defenders in the league but all of them were fullbacks. Not a single one of our CBs scored in the league and that is just a ridiculously poor stat.

Doubt this'll change. Apparently it's pretty low down on Martinez' list of priorities.

Yeah Martinez isn't a fan of goals from corners, says its just an opportunity to lose possession. I agree with him in a sense that we shouldn't be overly focused on corners but geez if you can't get 1 goal out of 10 corners there is something wrong. I'm pretty sure we've had games at 10+ corners and not a single goal which is just wasteful. Every corner, every freekick is an opportunity and we could have used some extra goals this season.
