I've been to Roda in Corfu which is a nice place if its just you and the Mrs. We took the kids to Lagana in Zante which is a bit more lively and well suited to parents and children.

Going to Ibiza instead,
Portinatx?

Not really fussed just happy with a week off in the sun.

Big island mate, a lot depends on the resort you're looking at.
We've been twice, once recently after the kids have grown up and once beards ago when we just got flights and travelled round Corfu and Paxos. Our kids were about 8 and 10 back then ?

My 1st time island hopping some 26 yrs ago was on that side, flew to Kefalinia to an airport that had no buildings & no landing lights, also went to Zakynthos (Tsilivi was a rd with a couple of Tavernas), Lefkada & Paxos, in Paxos we got a room that turned out to be someones Kitchen for about a quid a night, was told to take as much water & water melon as we liked from the fridge, it was very quiet & lots of early evening skinny dipping was done when the corfu lot had departed. Amazing that the ferry could get into that tiny port really.

Love Greece and would love to go Island hopping with the kids, and I'd imagine it's still as easy to get rooms, bet ferries wouldn't be too cheap for 5 though ?

Piraeus to Paros return 2 adults & 3 kids €236, so no they arent very cheap nowadays.

Charter flights or schedule flights ( booked well in advance for the latter ) to the group of islands you want to hop and then local ferries are the answer mate. We're flying to Samos via Athens with Aegean / Olympic in a couple of weeks and then get on the Nissos Kalymnos. Ferry tickets will be ~15 quid each for a four hour journey because it's on a "locals" route and is still subsidised by the govt as an essential route. Avoid seacats, fast ferries and hydrofoils if cost is the driver and look on the slow ferry journey as part of the holiday. You don't see dolphins or sea turtles on the fast options anyway.

If you fancied round Paros then fly Easyjet to Mykonos. Blue Star sail from Mykonos to Paros and they're bound to be cheaper than the Pireaus /Paros option. Even better, fly to Mykonos then swerve the main islands and visit the "Little Cyclades" http://www.greektravel.com/greekislands/little-cyclades/ which are totally boss.

Dhomatia in the smaller islands and off the main package holiday routes are still flogged off on the quayside for 30 to 35 Euros in June / July. It all seems more expensive than 20 years ago but, once you've taken inflation into account, ain't much different really.

Spanish islands are great and are only a couple of hours away so are cheap to get to, but Greece has it's own alphabet and so is "properly" foreign

All paid for now, can't change it, so burgers and cocktails for me.
