This is my opinion but posting this to see if others agree with me:

A lot of people are buying into this Martinez Myth that this is our best squad in 30 years... it is not

Firstly we don't have a good goal keeper Joel in last few games proved he is not good enough

Phil Jagielka will be 34 by time season starts needs to be shipped out

Barry should be left to join a newly promoted team to break prem record, as he is too old to start every week next season regardless if he was good this year

ask yourself how many top 8 teams would

Gibson mcgeady mccarthy oviedo clevz lennon start for?

we have one striker effectively and he wants to leave

niassee don't let me start on him

baines is in his last season

we have no natural left winger

our squad ( not starting 11) is awful martinez has got so many bad players in...

need to bin off another 5- 8 players bring up some under 21s and sign maybe 5 first team players

I hear some of your points, mate, but Barry proved last year he is more than useful. While I agree we may not want to be in a position to start him week in/week out, he's more than useful as a guy getting games here and there.

Same thing with Jags. Ideally next year it's Stones/Mori with Jags first CB off the bench. Could do much worse than that

spot on, but feel gibson maybe the one to come off bench and see of a game and see barry go to play reg at another club

I honestly would consider getting Rooney back on 2 year...to help the young lads coming through and to give us energy ...hes having a decent tournament ...

Barry was our player of the season. He won't play 40 games this time out but he should be the first name on the team sheet until form or fitness see him into a more sporadic role.

Absolutely vital to the team and squad.

I agree with the original poster. We have a VERY weak squad; the new manager faces a situation almost as bad as the one Moyes inherited.

While Jagielka and Baines probably have a season or two at the top left in them, they can't be considered as part of the club's long term future. We desperately need a goalkeeper, Robles is a second choice at best. Midfield is weak; Barkley is promising but Barry is nearing the end of his career, McCarthy was poor last season, and Gibson and Besic are both injury prone and cannot be depended upon to feature in more than about 50% of our games, while Cleverly is not good enough. Lennon is average at best; Oviedo hasn't recaptured his pre-injury form; Kone and Niasse should never have been permitted to join us, they are wage drains and nothing else. We've lost Howard, Hibbert, Osman and Pienaar. Mirallas and Lukaku are both gifted but inconsistent; the same must be said about Deulofeu.

There are isolated bright spots like John Stones, and we have some promising youngsters coming through. Also, fitness should improve markedly, whilr Koeman will, I am sure, be far superior to Martinez. He does, however, have a massive task in front of him.

I don't think the squad is weak as it is unbalanced. Lots of good left backs but limited at right back. Loads of right footed wide players but very few left footed. Lots of central midfielders and 3 senior centre halves.

Then perhaps more importantly you have the age differentials. We see to have very few players in their prime years say 25-31. Under Moyes we specialised in having sides full of players within that range. We have lots of one end (who thankfully we are moving out) and lots of promising young players who were thrown under the bus a bit.

Finally there is a mixture of a lot of ordinary players alongside young players & players who are inconsistent. The squad to me is a bit of a mess. On an optimistic day you would look at it and it looks great, but on another day you just scratch your head. I am not sure what players like Lennon/Cleverley really offer us now offer and above players like say Davies/Dowell. They are (at best) similar level but the younger lads will improve far quicker.

I like the fact Koeman is targeting players who are mid to late 20's. That is basically what we are missing. Experienced lads but players who are still at the peak other power. A guy like Strootman/Witsel would make a huge deal of difference to the squad really.
