True. That said, it would concentrate the mind of the powers that be that have delivered us what we behold today in the USMNT.

Sometimes you need to concentrate the mind. An existential threat will do that.

Combined confederation would start off with 8 World Cup slots and likely to gain more over time.

Are there 8 teams out of both confederations that are consistently better than us? I'm not saying on current form, judge the programs as a whole.

The answer to that question is no. Draw it out on a long enough timeline and there are only 2, Brazil and Argentina. Even Colombia had dark days in recent history.

If there was, we don't deserve to be regular qualifiers anyway.

Might be good for the USMGMTKMFDMRATM to play more teams of a decent level rather then not be overly motivated to play yet another team that pulls from a population of 50k.
