The Paris climate deal has been hailed by some as triumph. I couldn't disagree more, we are already seeing more than enough evidence to suggest that climate change is impacting on the lives of ordinary people on a daily basis already. To allow the temperature to rise to 2c we are basically giving the green light to continue to pollute and putting millions of people at risk. Notwithstanding that it doesn't even come into force for another 4 years and is mostly voluntary. I cant see anything improving as a result of this deal.

Even the most sceptical of climate sceptics must accept that regardless of the climate impacts that a move towards renewable energy sources are in the best interest of the country. We cannot continue to rely the likes of the Saudi's and Russia for our energy needs.

As global temperatures have been statistically static for the last 20 years, and will probably start falling as the earth is already heading towards the next glaciation, I take all this guff about "limiting the rise to 2 degrees" with a large pinch of salt.

I find the whole thing laughable. Bunch of suits fly in from all over the world, have a massive 5 day jolly (with food flown in from all over the world), then state some fluffy commitment as 'historic'. What will happen if/when temperatures rise above 2 degrees? Nothing, they'll just say 'ah well, guess we need another summit to discuss it'. Pathetic.

What i don't understand is what impact does any one of the people at the summits have on anything to do with the climate? How have they changed the whole thing in any way?

And with so many issues in the world, is this the best use of time and money? Jesus, kids being killed in countries without resistance but huge deal about 2 degrees hotter.

It's basically a unilateral agreement to set emission regulations. The next stage is to implement it.

As for the second point, a two degree temperature increase also increases water scarcity, which has already resulted in hightened conflict and is likely to worsen if nothing is done. The efficacy of the deal is certainly worth questioning, but not the importance of the issue itself.

Without fully understanding it (or really caring if i am honest) the first thing that came to mind about increasing things like that is third world countries, how does that benefit them? They can scarcely self sustain as it is without allowing for the condititions to marginally worsen for them.

I know nothing will change that circumstances but hell, how about a summit where the world look to tackle that problem? Clean water and self sustaining food. Wouldn't cost much and it could massively help the continent stand up for once and develop.
