Convinced now more than ever with Felli's signing...

...that we are 2 players away from being able to trouble the top 4. 1st on the list is a consistent striker who can score 10-20 goals a year. I also think we need a RM (hello Landon), who can provide pace and attacking intent (maybe even a cross or two). The backline hasn't been top shelf this year, but all of those guys have done it before, and I think it's more a matter of improved play from the guys we have rather than needing new blood.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but there's a really fine line between where were are now (and where we've finished over the last 3-4 years) and challenging for a CL spot.

I cant believe the optimism on here following Felli's signing...if we get taken over, maybe....right now, not a chance

And please get over Landon Donovan, hes about 103 by now, theres better players out there

I would agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that injuries can and do happen. In terms of our first eleven though i agree that we are probably 2 or 3 good attacking players away from being up there.

We have the player we had last week. We're near the foot of the table with him on board and most people would say we need half a new squad more to even get near 4th spot.

I don't think he said anything about the likelihood of it actually happening mate, no need to shoot down the topic so quickly. He was just stating that if we were to get in a few more top players we would be challenging.

Landon Donovan is a top player, i don't think there's any denying that there are better players around.

I know, i just cant believe the flood of optimism after all the negative stuff that we get all the time, as Davek said, we have the same player we had last week and everyone was all doom and gloom

People on here treat Donovan like hes Messi tho, he WAS a VERY good player for us for a few months a couple of seasons ago, but we dont have to go back there, its like saying bring Kev Campbell back, he kept us up in 99/00!

Our league position is largely down to player performance and tactics, rather than actual squad ability.

The players are barely capable of a lot more. If we hadn't sold Pienaar and Arteta then I'd agree we're underachieving in 15th or whatever position we're in. The manager is doing what he's pretty much always done with less talent (although he's doing my head in not playing Barkley, I have to say).

So let me get this straight...if we had a 15 goal a year striker, and someone (Donovan or not) who was pacy, and capable of putting legitimate pressure on the left side of a defense, the consensus is we'd still be nearer 17th than 4th? This is what some of you are trying to tell me? Just want to make sure I'm clear.

If so, agree to disagree, respectfully.

Not nearer 17th than 4th, thats a different point. You were talking about troubling the top 4, that wont happen with 2 signings
