So both the US and UK governments have pushed through the means to covertly monitor and record whoever they wish's computer/internet behaviour. Including Email and txt messaging.

Apart from this fellow and his cronies having already occupied this promised land of surveillance and exposed its many flaws and corrupting possibilities, where will the man hours come from to actively monitor whomever the authorities don't like, and who will monitor the monitors?

(No saying coast guard!)

When Jeremy Kyle can buy the emails and txts you have sent to your secret lover behind your wifes/husbands back and confront her/him with them, just what kind of society will we have made for ourselves?

I'm not overly keen on someone trawling my internet history to access the many and varied delights of the porn I enjoy in my own company.

I don't want a financial forensic expert pouring over my purchases and then selling the info on to either advertisers or manufacturers of similar merchandise.

If family or a friend confide in me about illness, money trouble, an employment issue, I want to be able to respect that confidence and privacy - It'd be heart breaking to see it on page 5 of the sun.

Skynet will monitor them. Seriously, I suspect the vast majority of monitoring will be done by AI, with humans only coming into the picture when triggers are tripped.

So in theory, only as good as the system that runs it. You mentioned the NHS elsewhere, how did the computer system that was being setup there turn out?

Edit: Also, if you are browsing an employment site, or recruitment agency and somehow your then boss is tipped off and you get sacked.
If you are researching certain topics like any number of massacres from the wars of history.
The capacity for social engineering and data gathering on a country wide level is utterly frightening. Murdoch has had his criminals crawl all over the rich and famous and is currently trying to sleaze his way out of being held responsible. Imagine if an even more malign force were to have even more and even deeper information than him and his Machiavellian ilk.
