Why will it never amount to the greatness of other soccer nation governing bodies? do any of you care of other national teams other than your own?

Corruption.

Oh yes, it is corrupt as Chico's hard drive when his spyware is out of date.

It also consists of low population countries with little money to invest in the sport. The exceptions to those factors are the same teams that lord over it every year.

It's the US and Mexico basically with everyone else trying to be third best. Weird that it has 2 of the highest population countries in the world, and then more small population countries than any other region.

Yeah. Those teams like Malta, Faroe Islands, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, San Marino, etc... really make a mockery of CONCACAF.

Oh, wait....

Every confederation has it's minnows. Doesn't make the top teams any less good.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'd take the USA over Poland in Poland vs. England vs. Honduras in Honduras. All day long and twice on Sunday. Our European friends don't quite appreciate away days to Azteca, Saprissa, & Olimpico as much as they should. Why you ask? Because they can't be bothered to watch the matches. I understand that but don't comment on the strength of our region when you take the Gold Cup and present that as "There's CONCACAF for you."

As a Latin American, I want to see our teams thrive. Great post Bill it's saddening all the leagues in CONCACAF are not really broadcasted over there in Europe I suppose. The soccer is full of passion.

It's not the number of minnows bill it's the ratio of minnows vs top teams.

Laugh at leichtenstein and san marino all you want but they never qualify for their regional tournament, barbados and belize do.

The problem with concacaf isn't that st lucia aren't as good as the faroe islands, it's that the same two teams finish 1st and 2nd every time.

If we had three european championship finals in a row between germany and spain and four world cups in a row where only germany and spain won matches, you'd be welcome to mock uefa as being a two team league too.

Christ we mock the spanish and portuguese leageus for it while atletico and braga are making europa league finals, it's not the quality of the other teams, it's the gap between the top teams and the rest. And if the same two teams steam roll everyone else every time, that's a problem that needs to be worked on surely?

Especially since the guy who started this thread isn't even european so you can hardly say it's solely european ignorance that views it as a problem.

Hmmmm. The general standard in the Latin American leagues is a bit piss compared to Europe mate. They make some good players but as soon as they do they're generally exported to Europe. The standard of footie in a lot of the Central & South American leagues is a bit crap truth be told, from experience here.

And lets take a look at the poland/honduras, USA/England comparison.

England are, according to the rankings, the tenth best team in uefa, USA are, according to the rankings, the second best team in CONCACAF.

Honduras are the 5th best team in CONCACAF vs Poland who are the 35th best team in UEFA (out of 53).

That's such an incredibly unfair example.

Fair examples would be the 2nd and 5th vs the 2nd and 5th, so USA away in Portugal vs Germany away in Honduras.

Or the 10th and 35th vs the 10th and 35th. So England away vs the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Dominican Republic away vs Poland.

Or if you insist on using england and the USA, use teams with a similar gap so USA away vs France (a team three worse than England) vs England away at Honduras.

Or alternatively USA away at Poland vs England away at Montserrat (a team 25 worse than the USA).
