There are plenty of posters here, and we all use PC's to get online and post our respective buIIsh!t on a plethora of forums and social media distractions.
So, who has a top gaming rig? deluxe Multimedia centre? video editing behemoth?
I am looking to build a new top flight rig for games and multimedia, a couple of my sata drives dropped recently and am wondering if SSD is the way forward - anyone with experience of building or having a sweet build - your input would be much appreciated.
Also, AMD bulldozer vs Pentium i7
air vs water cooling?
best Mobo manufacturers for overclocking?

I use a Samsung notebook, it's got loads of gigabytes, is easy on the RAM, and also has impressive Wi-fi connectivity

I bought it from PC World

Intel chips all the way. Dual core intels are still outperforming 6 core AMD's in most things except heavily threaded apps.

A fast SSD boot drive is awesome if you have the money for it, otherwise, like me, I just have a big, fast HDD.

My next upgrade will be to the i5-2500k, with ASUS P67 chipset mobo and 8Gb of PC12800 DDR3 RAM. This adds to my 1Tb WD Caviar Black HDD and Evga GTX 560Ti. I have a LG HDDVD/Blu-Ray player with a Bose system for movie night on this PC.

Air cooling is fine unless you are going for super overclocks. But for the price of a nice aftermarket air cooler you can get one of the all-in-one liquid solutions for cpu cooling (Corsair's H series are really good and come in around $50-70 here)

well here's the setup I have for my pc

CPU: i7 980x
RAM 24g
OS: windows 7 ultimate
MOBO: Sniper G1 1366 socket
Hardrives: 120g vertex SSD & 1TB western Digital
Graphics: AMD HD Radeon 6970 x 2 (crossfire)
Power: Corsair 1200w gold
Cooling: 7 air fans for circulation and a corsair H80 watercooling system for my CPU
Monitor:Samsung syncmaster T27A950D 120hz 3D
Tower: Aerocool xpredator evil black edition
Mouse: logitech G5 mouse
Keyboard: Razer Lycosa gaming keyboard
Mousepads: cant remember but they are 1 metre by 1 metre. Got 2 of them to cover my desk.
Sound: Altec lansing setup with amp and tweakers (forgot specs)
Overclocked for ****s and giggles
Peripherals: HP envy 100 printer, USB 3 switch 7 port, Netgear WAP for full wireless coverage for the house (5 bars everywhere)

Also got 2 xboxs and TV's set up, 1 xbox elite and the other Resident evil 5 special edition so I can game with friends, both with 42" tvs and active xbox live subscriptions

Phone: iphone 4gs
Tablet: ipad2
laptop: HP pavillion Dv6 i7920 8g ram windows 7 ultimate

also have a wii for any friends with kids that visit and a ps3 for bluray.

Tech is a bit of a passion of mine to say the least....

A 240gb ocz vertex 3 went for £235 earlier, and a 120gb went for £135
In the new year I expect a significant drop in price.
I keep blowing PSU's up, so am looking at a top of the range 1200W beaut to see if I can nobble that.

Also got about 10 terabytes worth of external data, since I work away I can pick and choose what I take to work. All perfectly sorted and labelled since I get a bit OCD about those things.

Forget computer hardware, what do you do for a living? Or is your first name Sheik?

It was for me, then I had kids and something had to give (which is why the upgrade is a mild one, from an E8400 to a 2500k)

1366 is on the way out. Going to be replaced with 2011 and the new Sandy Bridge E chips. Hell, the recently released 2700k is killing the 980X on benchmarks. Intel are doing wonderful things right now with their CPU's. AMD are playing major catchup, even those new 8 core Bulldozers don't stand up to a decent Intel chip.

And PC's aren't dying like the tablet crowd predicted. They are going from strength to strength, getting so ridiculously fast and sales are very strong and increasing over the past year.
