Communications Ombudsman - anyone dealt with them?

Throw shaka, not shade.
Howdy gang.

Bellends at EE signed us up for super fast broadband then cut us off from the interwebs for over two months, with nowt but BS and poor correspondence.

They're offering us £300 and 3 months free service (including the two months we didn't have!). My instinct was to take the offer, have a coke and smile and have a nice day but the manager who spoke to the missus reckons that the ombudsman would likely award us more. This sounded a bit suss to me, but apparently their initial offer stands regardless of the outcome. I spoke to the ombudsman on the phone and they are understandably guarded.

Just wondering if anyone has been through the process with them?

Tried sawdust obviously.

I had an issue with TSB and was going to accept their offer £75, a friend told me to go to the ombudsman as I will get more straight away. Ended up getting £200.

...I have no idea, but i’d be tempted to go back to them, tell them what you’ve been advised and see if they increase their offer.
Sorry mate, my post wasn't clear, it was the EE manager that advised that ombudsman would likely award more but the initial offer would still stand. I'd want that in writing though....

Never take the first offer always go back, what have you got to lose? A bit of time and effort.

The fact that they offered you something means they're in the wrong and know it.
You mightn't get much but if you get something however small, the satisfaction of ' sticking it to the man' is immense

Aye, cheers fellas. They initially offered us £100. We told them to shove that up their router.

To be honest, it's not the hill I wanna die on, 300 notes is alright, but don't want to get lowballed either.

I've gone to ombudsman for both communications and energy and whilst i did get a better offer than originally offered by the offending companies it wasn't by much and the Ombudsman basically ignored all the evidence I provided to them. I'd say do it just to annoy EE and I think if they get so many complaints referred to the Ombudsman it counts against them for future claimants (well something like that).

I wrote several letters to talk talk demanding a refund after they double charged me. All I got were standard letters (clearly an email printed out) requesting my security details before they could continue.

I wrote a few letters to the ceo demanding an explanation and was ignored, instead receiving the same letter back requesting security info - to the account holders address. I refuse to supply since this was written correspondence.

In the end I used the of ofcom route and they found in my favour after I requested my £12 refund and £75 - which was my charge to Talk Talk for my time in having to write the letters. I probably could have reasonably asked for more.

I would rather have no Internet than ever use talk talk again. Absolute shower.

Not strictly true that. Telecoms providers are charged £500 for every case that Ombudsman has to adjudicate on, so they'll often try to stop you from going by offering you less than that. The average award by the Ombudsman is in the region of about £20 I believe, so personally I'd take the £300. Also worth noting that most offers made by telecoms providers are an attempt to prevent deadlock, if the Ombudsman rules in their favour they'll usually withdraw any offer that was made a 'gesture of goodwill'.

Indeed, sticking something up a man feels awesome.

That's helpful, cheers fella.
