Hello,

I want to talk about communication, or the lack of it as now it seems. The whole world has been brainwashed by laptops, iPads, smart phones, you name it, they all have one. I see two year olds with iPads! Can you believe that? No, me neither! I see children on computers and laptops, which is great for development and I fully agree with the use of them as I've used a computer since I was nine years old. But, they never used them for the same reason I did. I didn't have Internet in 1994, I had a word processor on a black screen with green text. That's it! I didn't have games! So, what did I do on that word processor? I wrote football reports, I would make up my own football match and write a 90 minute analysis of it. I was in my element and if I carried on that path in life, who knows where I could've been!
In today's world, it's not word processers these children are using. It is Facebook, twitter, MySpace, bebo, face party, sound cloud, forums, websites, blogs. If they're not on those things it's BBM, what's app, texting, snap chat, Kik. When they leave school they probably say "I'll see you on snap chat" or whatever it is. Sorry, they don't say it, they text it. People are losing the knack of actual conversation. Kids don't talk these days because they don't know how to. They don't know how to express themselves in speech but they can on the Internet. I've got proof. I was speaking to a 17 year old girl once on msn messenger, she came across as bubbly and lovely but when I met her face to face she hardly said two words! Proves she lacks the art of communication. How many people do you know who swear a lot in conversation? Is that due to lack of vocabulary? Kids talk in text talk these days as well. They don't use proper words, they don't know proper words!
How many times do you see young people with their phone in their hands in public? Always. In my day that didn't happen! Kids didn't have phones! They didn't need them! If you wanted something or someone you spoke to them and expressed your feelings.
It is getting worse. Technology is great and I'm all for it but communication from the tongue is lacking.
Who speaks? Nobody.
They don't know how to!
By the way, I'm not saying everyone is like this but most of the younger generation are.

We are not in 2004 now lad

I've had this conversation in public and people like pensioners agree with me. They have seen it all change. Phones are out at the dinner table now. It's great how the world have evolved but people forget the fundamentals of conversation. I don't want my niece to have an iPad, but she has one, she's not even two!

I didn't have those games Ste. I had a computer that you had to load up with DOS. Green letters on a black screen. Good for the eyes like.
