Absolute farce the council plead poverty, bump council tax rates up by the maximum rate to cover social are crisis yet we want to spend tens if not hundreds of millions on this.

Fat Joe talking absolute nonsense again. Wavertree has the pool but no diving boards, and the capacity is too small so that would need to be developed

No suitable athletics arena, the veledrome in is an outside arena and would need to be converted.

Unfortunately the Council is in a massive predicament, money coming in does not cover the service areas. They have stated that they will support 2 areas moving forward: support the most vulnerable (not even vulnerable) and grow the economy. The idea is the latter, by bringing in external money to the city will cover the shortfall to support service areas.

The government have massively screwed us over, massively. So when you see money being spent on things like the giants there is an alternative motive. It's a spend to make money route, there is no cash left and not enough coming in

Was just listening to this on the news.

My questions on the subject.

1. How can anderson justify raising council tax to fund a deficit in the cities budget whilst also talking about building stadiums for the commonwealth games?

2. What is the long term plan? Tourism would be great but tourism to liverpool? just like water to a ducks arse really.

3. As great as it would be to have all these brand new sporting arenas built, there are literally the same down the road in manchester. What is the plan for building the exact same resources so close to another city that means there is going to be less demand for them?

Should never have knocked down New Brighton baths.
Had a boss diving board, would have been perfect.

Could be a joint NW bid, use some of the existing infrastructure around Manchester and build a new athletic stadium in Liverpool.
It would make a whole lot of sense, and could be a driver to fundamentally changing the bidding process for this jarg Olympics. Quite how any single city can afford to bid for this is beyond me.

Liverpool step in as emergency cover, Manchester provide the velodrome, build a simple athletics venue somewhere in Liverpool (SC) and muster the other venues from around the NW. Job done for the cost of a running venue.
