Coming from behind - are defenses worse or attacks better?

We all know how many times we've had to come from behind this season, but apparently City and United have both earned a lot of points from losing positions this season already.

Over the last few years (probably the Moyes era), it always used to be that whoever scored first had a fantastic chance of winning the game. That doesn't seem the case now at all.

Is it better attacks or are defenses now not as good?

Who scores first still obviously has the advantage. I think the trend of 'big teams' having to get back to the game is that people have noticed you can have a go against them. They aren't such super teams as they used to and it seems there's a shift away from 1-0 and 0-0 British games to something more open.

That or doggy style is trending.

More attacking focus, a lot of the time when teams score the first they often go for a second to try and kill the game off and get caught on the counter

No decent cover infront of the back 4

Once Gibson comes back I fully aspect us to concede less goals

I have seen pretty poor defences with Chelsea, United and City this season. Quite a few of the goals have been coincided stupidly.

I like seeing attacking play but how many world cups have Italy won by having a strong defence.

I think a lot of it can be put down to physical fitness and speed. Attacking players are much faster and fitter now than they used to be, even compared to a few years ago.
While an attacker used to rely on skill or a great pass to beat a defender, nowadays a run of the mill through ball results in a foot race which quite often the forward will win. This allows lesser teams with a quick forward (such as RS) to get a goal that their general play probably doesn't deserve. Over the course of 90 minutes however, the better team will create enough chances to come back and earn a draw or a victory.

Think that we have been consistently high up in terms of rescued points from losing positions over the past four or five years.

I think the first goal matters thing was round about the first 5-7yrs as we never really looked that capable of scoring 2 or more consistently.

Dont think we scored over 50 in any of them seasons and had our lowest ever goal tally too. Obviously this makes scoring first imperative.

Our sides developed to the point where most sides will set up to play us knowing we'll have the lions share of possesion and territory. Us getting a goal first will almost certainly see us win a game against most in this league as they have to open up against superior opposition. It also throws thier managers instructions as anybody with sense will be looking to keep us out first half and hit us on the break, especially at home.

For me it's not quite as important as it used to be as we are good enough to score 2 or 3 against anyone but we still don't want to give sides something to hold on to against us.
