good god man, write a normal post you weirdoDo we overrate him? Hard question to answer to be honest, but taking off the Blue tinted glasses I'd say it is mainly no but to some extent yes.
He is a very good full back and has shown that he has the potential to be even better than he has been of late; he can be a phenomenal RB.
I think this question has stemmed from the fact that lately he not been as good as he can be, be that defensively or in his attacking output.
Neither does it help that our defence has been utterly shambolic as of late, hence the recent questioning of Baines and Stones as well.
It's easy to pick faults in people if that's what you're looking for and Seamus is no different. For a balanced argument you'd be fair to say that...
...he doesn't always close down enough (stands off); has been known to make mistakes; his attacking instinct seems muted since his injury.
You'd be fair to say his crossing is pretty lacklustre as well. A little grumble for me this season is also his frequency of being caught offside.
But does that mean he's a poor player or overrated? No! Undoubtedly improved his defensive duties measurably as of late which is a big plus.
His attacking abilities are also clear to see from everyone and personally I think our current setup is to some extent shackling him... it's their!
He may not be the best right back in the league this year, hence why I say we may sometimes overrate him, but I think that's just a dip in form.
Would I swap him for someone else in the league? No chance. Would most, if not all, other teams in the league want him? I'd say so probably.
Whether he's the best right back in the league or not is immaterial anyway, as he's certainly a very good defender and fantastic for what we paid.
Would we get anyone better as well? Doubt it, unless we spunked some major money on someone and again they may only be his equal.
Once our defence is finally sorted all these grumblings will disappear into the ether, it's just easy to criticise when things aren't going our way.
