They're convenient, have improved massively in quality IMO over recent years, but they're very expensive and offer limited choice compared to the traditional way of doing it, with arguably lesser quality.

If you favour convenience and consistency over cost and quality, they're probably worth it.

if it is a proper one that grinds the beans, then yes.

If it is a capsule/pod type thing, then they are not great but ok of you are in a hurry or the alternative is freeze dried tasters choice

Which bean to cup machine do you have? I'm looking at getting one.

Saeco I think. works quite well, double shot espresso first thing in the morning is exactly what I need.
Not sure if there is much difference between brands, but get the highest pressure (bar) you can. most domestic ones are 10-12, but professional ones are 16-20. It really makes a difference. Save money on brands if you need to, but always get the higher bar.

I've had loads of coffee from all kinds of (friends') machines and in cafés, but I still ratecthe best coffee as coming from my little cafetiere.

The pod system just seems an expensive environmental nightmare. Shouldn't be allowed.

have a delonghi bean to cup...its brilliant, tailor the coffee to what you want and no prefer this to anything i can get in a commercial coffee shop
