Coaching Staff at Everton..

Thanks for your constructive input Dylan&Bruce. I must be a complete moron for thinking that a World class midfielder would have some technique and knowledge that would be of value to our midfielders(or elsewhere). It will of course be written down in the FA coaching manual.

You said it. I mean just look at those world class players Wenger, Mourinho, Eriksson. Did you know the coach at La Masia is Sergi, the former Barca left back. That's a left back teaching the best posession players in the world. But what do defenders know about stuff hey?

Why do you keep using the senior coach as an example bruce? Anyone state that a former defender know's nothing except his position? With all due respect, please note this isn't a Moyes/Round/Lumsden out thread.

Of course, but there is a common misconception amongst fans that only celebrated players can become decent coaches, and I feel it's a misconception born out of the complete ignorance most fans have into what coaches actually do. Hence you get people rating Steve Round (it seems) on the fact he wears that headset or people believing Big Dunc would make a world class coach on no firmer basis than he was a decent player/Everton icon. It's absurd really. I've no doubt that celebrated players have much they can pass on but I think we are massively underselling the work coaches do.

Bingo. We agree entirely. We can rule out Gazza. So would you think it useful to bring in a former world class midfielder/forward,someone with an aptitude for both coaching and teaching,to Finch farm to impart their additional knowledge?

My first criteria would be that they be a world class coach, whether they played at a high level or not doesn't really matter. To be honest though I know next to nothing about the coaching setup we have at the moment, nor how this compares with the coaching setup at attack minded sides. I just rankle at the suggestion that Spurs have a better setup because they have Les Ferdinand on the staff, when none of us know anything about his coaching ability. He may well be a fantastic coach, but the point is, none of us know that.

Like I mentioned earlier, the thread title's generic,I have no idea about Spurs either. My point's this-Moyes tried to play the football that he'd like to play last year, but it didn't work against defensive teams because we couldn't break them down,so we're now looking to buy players to give us that edge, the most expensive ones. Would it be better to get a coach in that specialised in this to train our players as a long-term solution. We are not a rich club unfortunately
