Club captain/team captain

My memory fails me often - which Everton manager was it that decided to have a club captain and a team captain? One for on pitch leadership and one for general team leadership? I seem to recall HK mkIII making Duncan Ferguson one and Dave Watson the other, however I may be wrong on the specifics.

My point is, would this benefit us currently? Would making Tim Howard club captain still have made him feel useful in the dressing room with Martinez more able to leave him out at an earlier stage (with Jags still in his current role)? Or would making Jags 'club captain' and making Stones 'team captain' persuade him to stay a little longer? Would it help or hinder leadership on the pitch? Maybe, maybe not, just wondering on a Thursday morning.

Hypothetically, say the same thing was implemented today - who would you have as team and club captains? Jags as club captain and Baines as team captain?

The Club Capt. is relatively simple... 1 plausible mouth piece to spout the party line. (Capt. Pip the pointer)
and unless there are candidates hiding their light under extremely thick bushels...there are none at present at the Club.

Capt. is as Capt. does...

Ratcliffe was AND he had the armband, but there were also none armband wearing Capts. like Southall and Reid.

Maybe Oviedo baby???

Leaders all over the pitch, yes. Would that help us be more vocal towards bad refereeing decisions, rather than 'nice, polite Everton'?

Is it a coincidence that strong personalities on the pitch are mostly tend to be Winners as well. There is of course a fine line between 'strong' on to 'mouthy' and then loose cannon

what we need id a loose cannon with a sense of direction...would right away be 'injured' in Roberto's next presser.

best captain wot we never ad... sniff

It should go to the one dominant personality in the dressing room. The alpha male. The Pack Leader.
With one look, able to invoke The Fear into the hearts of opposition hard men, referees and young children

Why don't we rotate the captain every week so that everyone gets a go! Seriously though...

One of our problems now, there isn't a captain or leader at the club, and include the manager in that.
Too quiet on the pitch, too nice to each other and to opposition.
Just a few yrs ago we had Cahill, Neville. Could see the spirit and organisation (in that order) on the pitch.

.....only one captain as far as I'm concerned. Having separate club and team captains is a cop out for me and would normally mean the the club captain is no longer certain of his place in the side.

As far as I can see, Jagielka is a fine leader and representative of our club.

Personally i'm not sure that the captain has all that much influence in football. Obviously in some sports the captain is responsible for tactical decisions, and in the likes of cricket has to decide on reviews etc. This means the role is very important and a certain type of person is required.

In football though, i think leadership can be shown by anyone, and the captain's role is sidelined to a large extent.

I think Arsenal use the 2 captains idea, with Arteta and Mertesacker sharing the duties of club and team captain. Neither of them are really the stereotypical big personality, lead by example types, but Arsenal seem to be doing alright.

Club captain....team captain...rubbish

Just give the job to Barks and it's sorted.

Want to see C on his sleeve in the pre-season and when the season starts.
