It's actually quite easy to stay there. Quick google brought me to this (link below); loads of pointers there - better to ask your question there. You can even take a tourist visum; go out of the country, go in again take a new one etc... There seem to be offices there that can help you with that for little money.
I don't know staying there is wise though; you'll probably end up teaching English.

Similar in parts of Africa too.Sounds right. I know an older couple who've live in China about 20 years. They renew their visas by taking trips every so often (even single night stays in Hong Kong before returning). Seems like this is easier than going the asylum route.
