No get back on it! The reason deforestation in the UK isn't so much of a issue is that it'd already happened! The UK was very heavily wooded until Henry 8 decided he wanted a navy. Let's bring it back.
Okay matey... I regularly bang the drum locally for people to plant conkers and acorns in the late autumn. We're lucky that there's land near us that's protected from future developments and webring them on it pots first before planting as tiny saplings every autumn.
Planting conifers and firs is great for quick cover, but for proper woodland you need a mix of species.
I'm no horticulturalist and would not be so bold as to suggest I know or have all the answers, but I'm pretty certain that unless we try and do something either individually and/or collectively, then our natural woodlands are liable to keep being eroded.
Urban tree planting is great, but the indigenous and natural woodlands must be protected and enhanced.
