Just been told we have to work 24th, 27th Dec and also 2nd January which is a bank holiday. Is this cool? Or should I kick off? I don't even know tbh. This is my first fulltime job so I'm not too sure.

It all depends on what it says in your contract mate.

Are you full time permanent or on a full time contract (contracts are year by year etc...)?

Also do you get paid overtime normally? And receive time and a half on Bank Hols etc...

Depends which way you look at it.

I've got to take the whole thing off from 24th-3rd and have it come out of my annual holiday because my work closes, while my missus has to work 24th, 27th 28th, 29th & 30th and isn't allowed to take it as holiday, which is ****. Working the 2nd is definitely a bit rubbish, unless you're getting a day in lieu or double pay for it.

[Poor language removed] Drebster x

And Blue 1, I don't think we are and it's normal 12 hour working patterns apparently. Everyone's kicking off over it but I was just checking before I join in. It does seem a bit ****ty, but also like 'just one of those things' that everyone has to get on with. I mean it's not as if everyone has to work Xmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Just with the 2nd being a bank holiday I thought we might get it off. Also working till 7 on NYE sucks ass coz I was hoping to get to Nottingham :(

Also what the hell is a day in leiu? People keep talking about it and I'm like I do not understand French or Chinese or whatever it is.

Day in lieu is when you work a day you wouldn't normally work and then get to take another day off instead.

Sounds like a pretty grim Xmas working pattern you've got and I'd be a bit pissed off with it myself, but at least you've not got to work any of the really important days. Could be worse.

Day in Leiu just means you may get an extra day to book of later in the year for example.

Not sure about the 2nd of January being a bank holiday, I know I have it off though. Pretty lucky here (just to rub it in) I'm off from the 23rd of December to the 3rd of January #winning

Kick off though Nik, it's what you do best! You should be getting paid more for working on Christmas Eve and possibly the 2nd if it is a Bank Holiday
