So I'm not very knowledgeable on army stuff and that but yeno those big helicopters? The Chinooks with the two propellers - one just landed near my house for about 5 minutes.

So cool! I want to fly in one now. :D

Don't know why it was there, does anyone have any ideas?

Maybe a training exercise?

It landed near the hospital though so I'm so confused...

But woah I love them! :D

I was posted at raf benson for couple years which had two helicopter squadrons there. I went up a couple times and it was pretty damm cool i must say. I had mates who got me a seat on couple exercises and its lucky they did cos i didnt go on a plane in my whole time in the raf. Even when we went to Germany to compete in a football tournament they sent us by minibus. Things done changed.

Oh and when i broke my leg in a raf match they sent for the airvac chopper but turns out it was busy. Just my luck. I had inhaled an impressive amount of pure oxygen and was feeling in good spirits considering my tib and fib were snapped and my leg was hanging by a thread. I had already planned when the helicopter arrived to yell in my best arnie voice 'COME ON....GET ME TO THE CHOPPER!' You can imagine my considerable disappointment.

We have them land on our hospitals emergency room helio pad a few times per year..... Assume they are transporting patients from one of the many area military bases, but also might be from boatings incidents from the coast... or more likely practicing/training for such.

I was a kid on RAF benson in the 80's. Queens Flight back in those days...

Its a nice base really isnt it? Beautiful area and a nice community feel. I was doing telecommunications in a bunker but got bored and retrained on the wing at brize doing tactical comms.

Nice one Frank - I did a few years at Brize before going Aircrew

Aircrew? nice move well done. I loved the raf but hated my job to be honest. I knew i wanted to be a mental health nurse but they wouldnt give me secondment so had to pvr. Still thinkin of signing back up once i get a driving licence as its a requirement.

Yeah I joined up as TG3 but it was dead mans shoes for promotion...considered mass murder before deciding to try for Aircrew - best move I made. I left the mob a while back - still miss the lads and the banter though - good luck with mental health route...there's a few nutters on here you can practice on

Yeah its the banter i miss. And the beer calls obviously.

They land on Thomas lane by broad green hospital about 5 minutes from my house. The other month two came at the same time, I got more excited than I should of.

Mental Health?, get 'em on my drugs, I need the sales!

Benson was ace, my favourite place, met the queen, princess diana, margaret, princess michael and saw fergie learning to fly. Still remember a massive Hercules airlift, I think for ethiopia...

Me,I tried the RAF route went to Cranwell, passed all the tests etc but had a bad interview, recommended for Halton but I was 23 so left it. Thought about the Army but it was pre-911 and there didn't seem to be any point to the army back then other than square bashing and getting shouted at.
