Chinese gamer dies after three day blowout

A Chinese man has died after playing an online game for three days without a break.

The Beijing Times reports that the unnamed 30 year-old had barely slept or eaten during his mammoth session. He collapsed while playing at an internet cafe on the outskirts of the city and was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he died after failing to regain consciousness.

It later came to light that the man had spent the equivalent of £928 on online games last month. It is not known which game he was playing at the time of his unfortunate demise.

Online gaming is hugely popular in China, particularly among the country’s young. Government measures introduced to curb problems of addiction have met with little success so far, and it is now thought that as many as 450 million Chinese citizens now have internet connections.

Sadly, this is not the first time that somebody has died after gaming for too long. In 2005 a Korean man perished after playing online for 50 hours non-stop. A lack of rest and nourishment would seem to be contributing factors in both cases.

The Chinese government are mental when it comes to videogames (amongst other things, obviously). They outlawed all consoles, so all people play are illegal console rip-offs and PC games.

Stories like this border on pointless though. They're isolated incidents of idiocy.

You better explain that to Chicoazul.

He's ALWAYS online.

Everything has the internet now though. You can be on the bus, on a plane or buying yourself a pastie in Gregs, and be posting on GOT at the same time.

Not to imply everyone on here has a social life though.

*stares at empty calendar*

Something similar happened in korea a couple of years ago. They have loads of 24 LAN houses where people play online role playing for hours. The goevernment there put a restriction on how long an individual can play for. Unbelieveable really.

Happens a lot in China/Korea, people get paid to farm areas of games like Diablo WOW Aion etc, and try to sell the items online. Pretty poor, but kids/geeks etc will pay for it.

These sorts of incidents could be applied to any "pastime"

I'm damn sure if we all masturbated for 3 days ehem solid we die from exhaustion as the old saying goes everything in moderation
