Children’s Book

Bit of an odd one here. I have written a couple of children’s picture books (age range 4 - 8)

I have interest from some publishers but the children’s picture book market is increasingly difficult to get into due to the saturation of the market and the fact that retailers take 55 percent of any sales.

With this I have two ways to go, I either self publish or the publishers interested will publish knowing there is a pre-order of minimum 100 copies. They have suggested that it is normally done by listing friends, family etc children’s names in the back of the book, with the idea that friends, family etc then buy the book and have a picture book which is a keepsake as it has the acknowledgement to their child.

I thought I would try this route first and have sent out on social media to family, friends, my children’s school etc and have had a decent response. I was wondering if any parents on here might be interested at all.

I can self publish but the cost is quite high if you want a decent looking book with illustrations. If it was an adult book with no illustrations the costs come down quite dramatically.

Its certainly a route i will look to take if i cannot get the interest through the parents,family,friends route.

Do you do the illustrations? if not maybe worth trying to get in contact with a budding illustrator to reduce costs and do it as a joint project

Honestly i am ok with the words but my drawing is terrible unless its a stick man or woman.

If any parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc are/were interested i would be eternally grateful.

My brother does freelance illustrations mate, mainly ancient history school books, although he`s published a couple of his own history books too.

He`s a total bum and will illustrate anything for cash.

Just as a heads up the first story is about two bears who continually play on their tablets/gadgets etc and have to find their love for the great outdoors again (ie camping/kite flying/playgrounds etc) but in a non preachy more fun way.
