Might be a bit early for some, but I've just seen what I think is a decent bet so thought I'd start a thread.

Skybet have a price boost today, Altior to win the Arkle, Douvan to win the Champion Chase and Unowhatimeanharry to win the Stayers Hurdle. 4/1 the treble. Best you can get anywhere else is 11/4.

...much too short for me. My ante-post portfolio is a bit too long to list but I steer clear of the short priced favourites and look for a bit of value. Two of my shortest prices were Yanworth 16-1 for the Champion Hurdle and Djakadam 12-1 for the Gold Cup. I've got a couple of 40 and 50-1 shots that are much shorter now, fingers crossed they turn up in the right race!!

History tells me that the very short priced favourites do well at the festival, so combining them in a bet like this makes it doable. Usually you can get offers on them as well. I remember a few years ago getting 3/1 on Big Bucks and Quevega winning. Of course I'll do some silly multiples on the handicaps as well, you never know.

..I think it's a good bet, I'm a mug punter. Indeed, I was just on a betting forum and somebody has put it up there (maximum stake £50).

The only time I go to the races is for a laugh and a day out.

Serious question, can someone explain to me why such a big race meeting is held so early on in the year ?.

The only reason ask, is that it's always freezing at this time of year !

I think it depends on your opinion of Unowhatimeanharry. The other 2 should win barring accident or injury. I think because he has won 3 of the recognised trials he has a cracking chance. It's a bit like those trebles that Skybet put up on the football every week.. Most of the time I look at them and think there's 1 that would let you down, and on this bet they will be relying on Unowhatimeanharry losing.

The Jumps season proper runs from September through to April, therefore this is at the end of the season. It's due to the weather, as it's unsafe to have jump races on firmer ground so the traditional jumps season is held when it's wetter, and the flat season when it's (supposedly) dry.

...I agree, UKWIMH is the one they fancy might get beat. In a way you are getting 4-1 for it because the other two look solid.

..the 3 big 'jumps' festivals are held at the end of the winter jump racing season. Cheltenham in March, Aintree (Grand National meeting) and Punchestown are in April.

Thanks, makes sense when you look at it like that

I know I'm sounding like a walking advert for them, but Murdochbet are offering money back on the first race every day as a free bet, up to £20. I plan on putting £20 on, and then having a lucky 15 or something similar, either with the £20 free bet or with some of my winnings!!
