Cheese + bread + heat - a poll...

I'm OK with the cheese on toast and that, but I'll give up my considerable virtue for a proper grilled cheese sandwich. Best with good homemade bread and some American cheese that has all those industrial melted solvents added for extra deliciousness, at that. Two slices in the middle. Make sure the butter is evenly spread and don't get the pan too hot. Some Colman's spread on the inside of the bread is a nice surprise as well. Let it rest a bit before you whack it into halves before you shove in your gob. Quarters if you have a nice big loaf of bread.

As English people have no idea that a "Grilled Cheese Sandwich" is in fact not grilled but made in a frying pan and is kinda of like a cheese toastie made in a toastie machine. Also that Americans called the grill in the stove a broiler and a bbq a grill.

So then there's vest, wife beater in america, vest in England.
Vest in America, Waistcoat in England.
Tank top in England, sweater vest in America.
Tank top in America, camisole in England or sometimes a vest.

All I know, is I ate an ace American style grilled cheese yesterday at a deli called 'The Dashing Dutchman'. He wasn't really 'dashing', but was defo Dutch. Cheddar and Gouda on a grilled cheese is magic.
