Looking forward to seeing where this places on Channel 4's "Top 100 Channel 4 Attempts at Being Superficially Provocative," with Robert Webb continuing to calcify his career as the voice of the Y-bother generation.

I don't think Nik should be pilloried for expressing the view that there's a tendency among many (generally indifferent) liberals to instinctively wash over the corrosive problems extreme Islamic beliefs create in our nice little society, a society polite enough to do its ills in some desert somewhere miles away. Magic Juan's quite correct in everything he's saying here, but the urge to shift culpability towards the ignorance of those interrogating Islamic practice doesn't just highlight the disparity: it also seems to cause further hostility and, in some cases, an unfortunate kind of nationalism. It's worrying that the most vocal critics of an archaic and repressive set of beliefs tend to be the EDL- and BNP-types that freight valid criticisms with all sorts of horrible connotation.

Obviously we should just kill everyone but Ryan Gosling and Rhianna and allow them to start again: a light brown race of beautiful dancing children, complete religious ambivalence, and a good sense of how independent cinema translates into mainstream success.

Surely we must keep The Wanted alive, they can sing the hymns in our new better church.

Moderate muslims by far outweigh the Extremists that seem to get all the attention, both abroad and at home.Extremists of any religion are trouble,just look at the bible belt in America and some of the views they have and some of the stuff they have done.Killing doctors for performing abortions, letter bombs etc. I get the feeling a lot of people including Nik think all muslims are extremists, they are not

And I don't think its a requirement of muslims in this country to intergrate with me and my beliefs,thats upto them and me if they/we want to.

Im not to be honest but the fact you mention terrorism,intolerance,sharia law,Lee Rigby,everyone wake the **** up, in this page alone makes me think you think like that.From my experience of Muslims,mainly from going abroad in a country which is an Islamic country i found them to be tolerant of my behaviour(drinking,smoking swearing etc)and generally not tried to push any of their beliefs on me or use sharia law to punish me.

If you don't like muslims thats upto you.Personally I try and judge people as individuals and on thier behaviour not as large groups and generalising.

I do think Islamic Extremists are a problem in some countries but not so much in England and the way our goverment tries to deal with these extremists just creates more extremists IMO.

One of the points I was trying to get across was the generalisation of large swathes of people based on a single aspect, i.e. their perceived faith. If someone like Nik accepts and promotes that then he has to accept that every Christian or Jew is intent on bombing the life out of women and children in the middle east and that they are desperate to bring down the rapture. People think this country has it rough with immigrants because the press tells them it has, a predominantly right wing press, that doesn't report the atrocities of the west on the 'compatriots' of these antagonised peoples we're all supposed to be scared of.....
