Changing career

Depends on your age I guess.

When I was younger I went from retail to waitering to hospitality. I eventually ended up in the service retail sector because I got desperate. I'd been out of work for two weeks and was just applying for everything by that point.

I recently looked into doing something that actually makes a difference, but I'm too old now really.

There’s a lot of this about and mostly through people reconsidering their purpose after the year we’ve all been through. Go for it, habit is the enemy of progression. A mate said to me a few weeks back two things worth investing it, enjoying for work and a comfortable bed, as you’ll spend most of your life in either. Good luck lid.
Heard anything back off Maccies yet mate?

Has anyone on here ever changed profession? If so what did you change from/to?

I'm thinking of doing it myself. Mostly because I don't like what I'm doing now, but I'm not sure if it's just the company I work for, or I need a complete career change.

I did but, to do so, I worked in a job where I was getting paid £6 an hour for a year which was difficult.

Luckily the risk paid off but not everyone can probably do that or actually get the break so I'm not sure I'd recommend doing it that way.

If you can afford potentially taking a drop in income to move in to a career that would make you a lot happier then definitely take the jump. As much as it's great to have money, being happy at work and generally happy with life is far better.
I've spent the last 26 years in a job that I've hated for most of that time but 12 years ago I took the decision to start doing wedding photography which I absolutely love doing. I still have the office job but I was able to take a step backwards that came with a £10k drop in salary but there is also a lot less stress and responsibility which makes the job a lot more tolerable. I more than make up that lost salary with the income from wedding photography though.

Don't do construction mate, I'm sitting on scaffolding having my break starting to rain, ffs it's summer. No holiday pay no pension keep away from it, oh but the arthritis is something to look forward too. Good luck mate whatever you choose just go for it you only live once

Yeah, I did. Spent 25 years in a suit doing clever pension stuff, worked out I didnt need to do it anymore, so jacked it in and started delivering stuff. Swapped a suit for a hi viz vest thing, and absolutely loved it.

I think I was lucky though, cos most other drivers I met hated it!
