Change in Formation

It's strange that we haven't seen him really even try going with a 3-4-3 over the past year and a half. That was his in case of emergency formation at Wigan, and while Everton haven't gotten that close to relegation, things have been sufficiently dire for him to give it a shot.

Wigan played 3-5-2 against Manchester City in the Cup Final - and won.

They had half a dozen defenders out with injury. So Roberto played Boyce, Scharner and Alcaraz as the back three, with McArthur and Espinoza as makeshift wingbacks.

Good question this one. Remember RMs first season he tried a few times with Alcatraz, Jags and Distin - never worked as BirdMan kept giving the ball away.
That's our main problem now, I'd worry 3 CBs would only result in more tippy tappy in front of our box, and we know how that ends over 90 mins.
Just need Jags to tell Stones to welly it upfield more, and play our football in the the other teams half.
We should always play 2 rabid tacklers centre mid (Reid/brace = Barry/McCarthy or Besic).
The rest do the rest. Simples.
