Simple question....what's the best centre back pairing from the four we've got -Jags, Distin, Heitinga and Duffy? And why?

For me it's Distin and Johnny......strength and (recovery) pace from the former and passing/technical ability from the latter.

Jags and Johnny, the reason being is that they are very solid the end of last season and conceded very few goals, Jags and Distin have looked dodgy in the games so far this season and as for Duffy I don't think he's ready to be at the top level yet, maybe a short loan?

Jags and Distin for a fair while have been our best pairing, but last couple of games look pretty ropey. All defenders make mistakes but generally they are forced into it, both of these seem to make them off their own back at times.
For me Distin and Jonny may work.
Jags has been pretty poor, Distin when he makes a mistake at least has the pace to recover it, has the height to stop the high balls and the ability to play his way out of trouble as well.
Jonny is a decent CB, needs a run of games again.

Distin and Heitinga...

Jags should be dropped. Heitinga should never have been dropped after the season he had last season and if put in his position, could understand him wanting to leave. Duffy looks good but I don't know if he's ready to be a starter on a consistent basis. His da said something about a loan in the near future but the squad's looking stretched as it is... although it would give him some more good match experience. Maybe some cup games.

Duffy if he is giving a run of games in the side him and Heitnga would be my choice, Distin and Jags don't work well
together as seen in the last two games Distin is getting on abit.

I'd agree with this, pretty much word for word.

Horses for the courses. Whichever two are bang in form but if we're playing someone where were likely to have to press the play then Heitinga. Backs against the wall then Jagielka should be in. Big fast grocks then Distin's your man.
