Put this in here cos there is a Everton slant on it but it seems to be happening more and more, look at the state of the Irish celebrations after last night? Shane Duffy ex-Everton in particular caught my eye

Also, Robertos comments about reaching the "final 16 of the Europa and two semi finals of the domestic cups".

Am I missing something here? Exactly what is there to celebrate?

Think you're being a tad unkind there Bryan.
After the trouncing Ireland got from Belgium, to win a must-win game to progress deeper into the competition is worth celebrating.
With no disrespect to the RoI, they are surely still seen as a footballing 'minnow' compared to the likes of Spain, Germany and Italy.

I agree with the OP.

Whilst I'm sure their feeling of relief and elation at overcoming the odds to stay in was palpable, to cite it as "OMG, the best night ever" etc is melodramatic to say the least.

It's akin to celebrating finishing 4th, which qualifies you for a competition you've almost no chance of winning. Arsenal - I'm looking at you here. It's ridiculous, but sadly the way of the game nowadays.

I agree. They were only third best in their group, or in the grand scheme of things between 17-20th best team after knockout stages give or take the stats.

Pretty poor expectations tbh
