Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
The display by the boys last night was pretty turgid, almost as though they couldn't get motivated by the competition.

Yet we're in the quarter finals nonetheless. Do you think the Carling Cup is a worthwhile use of resources or a waste of time and effort?

Its a trophy and we're in the last 16, I know people really dont rate this one at all, but its one more for the cabinet and requires less effort than most!

Like I said last night I crave silverware and the league cup is a trip to wembley and a piece of silverware.

I dont think we should go for it to the detrimant of the league, but give fringe players and players returning from injury proper game time.

In theory we should be more hungry for it and I go along with playing Wessels, and other 2nd choice players.

So in answer to the poll- I have a 4th option- go for it with the fringe players and players returning from injury.

At the end of the day David Moyes, if he left Everton today will have won nothing, however, we have a golden opportunity here to add to our trophy cabininet and for Moyes to bring his first real success to Everton.

I for won would love to see us in a final of any competition. It would raise our profile, get us into europe, in fact what would the negatives be on winning the trophy? Or even getting to the final for that matter. Its only 3 more games and the competition is over, surely our proffesional players can add 3 more games to their season?

I would have agreed with that mick, but now we're in the quarter finals I think we need to take it a little bit more seriously. Judging by our history in this tournament then we wont be at this stage for another 20 years! By which point ill be 48. Please dont make me wait till im 48 to get this far again.

in recent years the FA cup has been derided for supposedly being worthless and tertiary. if that is the case where does this piss pot of a cup feature?

£10 a burger in wembley, they know where they can stick that.

So you dont want us to get to a final because its £10 a burger at Wembley?!

By who though, the big teams always win it, so clearly they take it seriously. Are we really that arrogant to say that the league cup is below our standards?

I for one would love to see this in the record books:

Everton 2007 League Cup Winners
Everton 4 - 0 Liverpool - Final

It would relieve the trophy famine of the last few years and good for bringing players back or trying young guns.

I take it thet winning does not qual for Europe, is that right?

Wouldn't a final against Arsenal/Liverpool/Chelsea guarantee Europe? Maybe even a final vs Blackburn/Man City/Spurs if they also qualified via the league.

Waste of time? I think not. Potentially 4 games for a European place next season.

I thought winning the trophy gets you a UEFA cup spot? Put it like this, it will be easier to qualify for europe that way than through the league this year.

I'd take finishing mid-table if we won the league cup.

I'm fairly certain that the League Cup only offers a UEFA spot to the winner. The runner up qualifying thing only applies to the FA Cup if the winner of that is already in Europe.

Thats what I thought. Football has become a complicated thing to remember all the rules.

There was a team on the other day, cant remember which now, but their players thought they were going to extra time but the ref blew up and they won, and they didnt realise they had won on the away goals. When the players and management dont seem to realise what the rules are maybe a little simplication is needed? Sorry Bruce i'm going off the thread again, please dont shout!:D
