Going travelling around Southern Africa at the end of October. Got about about a day and a half in Cape Town.

Anyone on here ever been and got any recommendations of things to do/see, places to eat/drink etc? Already got things down like Table Mountain and Robben Island.

Cheers. ;)

Mods - sorry, just realised I should've put this in the travel thread. Feel free to delete it as I've just posted in there now.

Check out the GOV-UK main website.

A significant number of concerns re South Africa, as regards Brit's planning to visit.

Table Mountain is a must.

Unless you have problems with heights, take the cable car up it. I will not reveal the surprise you get though! The summit is a bit meh to be honest, but you just have to go up it anyrate.

And like someone else said, check the Government/FO advice. Its a sound place, but can be, well is, dangerous if you are unaware of what to look out for.

I'd not go. Never heard anything good about south Africa. At all. From people who have been too.

Work in SA regularly, mainly Johannesburg....sound place. Like anywhere, you need to have your wits about you and be confident so you don’t stand out. Only had one issue when the Uber I was in going back to O R Tambo airport got stopped by fake police on the motorway. Ended up a very close shave but ended safely more by luck than judgement.
Back there first week of September.
Cape Town can be dangerous, but so can London.

Thanks for that. Yeah I’ve heard all about the dangers and that. To be fair, I’m quite well travelled and have been in the roughest parts of Rio and Buenos Aires, for example, and felt completely fine there.

And I’m only there for a whole day really so it’d be pretty unlucky if something did happen to me in that time haha!

It’s a fantastic country specifically the Western Cape and Cape Town , lots of people who usually haven’t been will make comments about whilst People who travel there tend to want to go back.

I’d give different advice if you were going to joberg but I go to Cape Town at least every year for fairly lengthy periods and have never had an issue . You’re clearly a seasoned traveller and I’d say you’ll find it much ado about nothing .

Some of the restaurants are fantastic as are the winery’s, but obviously you haven’t got a lot of time . I’ll fire you a quick pm mate .
