People look at me funny when u say we should actually be higher than we are. When I say i think it's in a large part down to the manager's tactics of sitting on a lead they look like im mental. Amazing the power of the media

Watched it in the US - the pre game was all about how good Spurs have been and Bale missing. Then our section was all about how we are over achievers, never really even considered us for top 4 battle. Makes me fume!

Arsenal don't spend a bean they don't make and haven't for years. No one calls them out on it.
You're not exactly comparing apples and apples there though, are you. Arsenal make a sh1tload more money than we do, hence the fact they can buy the likes of Giroud, Podolski, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc etc. They paid us £10m for Arteta, ffs!

For Gods sake Liverpool are talking up their chances of CL qualification which have been non-existent with the last six months but it gives the appearance of a big club fighting it out with other big clubs.

No, it gives the view of a deluded club who think they are better than what they are. I think Moyes has handled it pretty well

Which boxes do you have to tick to be regarded as a 'big' club, and how many big clubs are there? Can't be many, I don't think.

How and when do you stop being a big club? I've never heard it defined.

I couldn't really care less what other people in the media think of us. I also dont care whether they are touting us about as the number one CL Quali contenders, what I do care about though, is what we do on the pitch, and getting results. If, in 2 months time the papers are going on about how surprising it is that Everton are in Europe instead of Spurs/Chelsea/arsenal, and how "plucky little Everton" have massivley over performed above expectations, I still couldn't give a ****. And whats more, If we qualify for the CL, then we have still performed below what I will always expect at the start of a season.

Guys, times have changed.

When was the last time we challenged for a league title, won a trophy, had an exciting European run or competed financially?

Yes we're a big club with decent gates and a beautiful history but the media doesn't care about anything pre premier league.

In my lifetime Everton have never been expected to finish top five except when I was an infant.

I'm 24 years old and all I've ever known is "plucky little Everton".

Is it any wonder the media sees us that way too?

The only way to truly define a big club is to only include parameters which make sure your favourite team is classed as a big club. If you can choose those parameters to make sure a team you don't like is excluded, so much the better

Well, that'd be OK. It's not hard to define Everton as a big club using that method, and using a different one Liverpool are
getting smaller every season as they've only won a few Cups - mostly on penalties - since they last won the league years
ago.
