Player Valuation: £60m
I listened to Alan Curbishley this morning on SKY about yesterdays game.He mentioned how well Spurs did in spite of missing Bale,Defoe and Lennon. He talked about their CL chances.

He ignored that Everton were missing both Fellaini and Pienaar, who are just as important to us as the missing Spurs players are to their team.

Generally, this doesn't bother me as I have no great respect for the opinons of the pundits on SKY anyway.
However, this morning it dawned on me that we are at least partially responsible for this ourselves and from a commercial point of view it hurts the club financially to have such a low profile and not be regarded as one of the bigger and better teams...which we are.

Top teams get top sponsors, get top promotional deals.Little Everton punching above their weight are of limited interest to advertisers with money to spend.

For Gods sake Liverpool are talking up their chances of CL qualification which have been non-existent with the last six months but it gives the appearance of a big club fighting it out with other big clubs.

David Moyes in particular likes to play up the image of Everton fighting against the odds to challenge the top clubs.

Everton are a big club,we should be at the top challenging, it is where we should be and should not be a surpise to anyone.

They don't fool anyone though, mate.

I wonder if there is some insight to the way Rodgers runs his side and his relationship with players to be taken from every time he opens his mouth about where he can finish or about being the " new shankley" or whatever pony he chats that they seem to fail to deliver. Long may Brendan keep talking up his team as it seems to work against them .

"Everton are doing well aren't they"

That quote pisses me off as if people are saying we are over achieving. I think we could've done much better this season.

I hate how we are perceived by the general public. "Little old Everton" go and **** yourselves you horrible, tiny minded rats.

Feel better now.

we are perceived this way because this is how our manager talks about us in every interview.

But it could be argued we play much better when seen as underdogs. Hence why Moyes says in most press conferences we're outsiders etc...

It suits BK to have us portrayed as a small club, as it justifies his inability to bring new investment into the club, or sell etc. Moyes' oft-repeated quotes back that view up.

We know that LFC already outstrip our total turnover with their commercial turnover alone.
Today, Man U just announced a new sponsorship deal with Aon to cover their training kit, and training site.

I am not comparing us with them, but the overseas TV deal over the last few years has opened up opportunities for multi-layered sponsorship deals for clubs. I know, I worked on a few in Asia. From next season all overseas TV territories have rights for all 380 PL games a season. The payback for sponsors is superb. There are current sponsors looking to renegotiate, or trade up a club or two, and new sponsors looking to get into this market. It offers to them a better ROMI (Return on Marketing Investment).

Everton will still have a weak deal with Thai Beverage, who having learned about the sponsorship market during their time with us, have expanded their horizons. I'll be amazed if they even want to renew.

We'll be overtaken by the likes of WBA and Stoke in the next couple of years. Villa are now streets ahead.

Arsenal don't spend a bean they don't make and haven't for years. No one calls them out on it.

From a commercial perspective people smell our desperation a mile away. The chairman and manager have sold this angle for years because it takes pressure off the pair of them. One of them in particular wouldn't still be here but for playing this angle superbly.

Problem is it also removes the players of responsibility if they don't play like winners.

Kenright is an idiot to talk about us as a "small club" - it's hardly a great selling point is it?

Oh come and buy my little football club!

I agree with all of that, especially the part about Chang.

Everton's small-time image suits Kenwright and Moyes down to the ground. The pair of them are bullet-proof as long as the media keeps perpetuating the idea that the club is in good hands.
