Hate to say it but this sort of attitude is one of the reasons why in general British sport is so gash.
When a sportsperson is doing well people find a reason to hate ie middle class sport not for the poor, blah, blah.
When a sportsperson is doing well but can't fit any unacceptable class category then it's, oh it won't last for long he/she/they will soon start losing again.
When they're doing badly they just get hammered, it's unfortunately systemic in the british psyche. As an expat living in Australia where sport (apart from football) is well supported at all levels by government and the population.
So in short my advice to you would be celebrate the fact that ou have a tennis player who has the chance to challenge the worlds best to win your home tournament.
Agree 100% with this. In fact i'm going to rep you.
It's a British person doing pretty well in a sport, and people get on his back because he's a bit miserable. I just don't get it. He's just focused on doing well. If he was a wacky character that the media and public loved he'd end up being the Eddie The Eagle of the tennis world. Great. Really great. FFS.
I really hope he wins Wimbledon. I don't think he will, but I hope he does.
Tennis is only seen as middle class as middle class people watch it. There's nothing to stop anyone going to watch it, and it's a great sport to watch, even acer to play, and it's reasonably cheap too.
AND Strawberrys are ace.
