So he blood doped essentially.

Wonder how many English players were clients of Dr Fuentes?

I can understand why you think that's blood doping, but using platelets isn't. It's just a medical procedure to reduce inflammation and speed up recovery. You can essentially get rid of tedonitis overnight with this treatment. It's far from blood doping and is a legitimate medical procedure you can get done in this country.

His six month stint on painkilling injections (cortisol), whilst also legal is actually worse than juicing. The irony is that cortisol steroid injections are legal in all sports, but they're potentially far more harmful.

Those tablets referenced, six in the morning and six in the evening, sound interesting though. Especially as they were accompanied by a crash after cessation.

Anti inflammatories aid recovery, he's just got a miss understanding of those drugs in the article. They're not great long term mind, specially for your gut lining, but they are a great tool.

The animal injections would be what most people associate with 'juicing/ doping'. Reference him mentioning surgeries in Europe.

The article is a bit of sensationalism coupled with the footballer lack of understanding regarding legitimate treatments and what would constitute banned performance enhancers, he only anekdotally mentioning where performance enhancing drugs were being used.

There is no doubt in my mind that that there is some sort of doping going on in Spanish football. The link to Fuertes by alot of those clubs is evident. The fact that only 2 players are randomly selected for drug testing per week from all clubs is a farce. I would not be surprisef if in 20 years time it comes out that top players at certain clubs had been given banned substances.

I still do not hold Messi's career in as higher asteem as some of the other greats due to the use of HGH as a teenager. Whether it was to help him grow or not if someone told you Usain Bolt had used this substance in his teenage years there would be all kinds of uproar. Messii would not be the player he is now without that help.

Also look at Marion Jones years of substance abuse goald medals left right and centre.

messi used growth hormones...

messi used growth hormones...

Messi had a medical condition called Growth Hormone Disorder. it's not uncommon in medicine for doctors to prescribe HGH for legitimate purposes. If a child's body isn't producing HGH properly then it should be supplemented. The notion it's turned him into a super athlete is farcical at best and just plain nescient, the reality is it has helped save his health.

Children have ridiculously high levels of HGH in their system. The use of HGH isn't as miraculous as some people think, it's typically a hormone that's main benefit for performance enhancement is derived from how it works synergistically with synthetic testosterone. In and of its self it won't do a great deal, there will be a benefit yes, but it certainly won't produce a super athlete.

The benefit of Messi taking HGH were no greater than any other teenage kids natural HGH levels. The whole argument regarding Messi benefiting from HGH, is as ridiculous as saying any child that has received medical treatment for an illness should be banned because he/ she has had artificial help. Thankfully we don't live int he stone age, and people can receive treatments for all sorts of ailments.
