iverpool owner John Henry has hinted the club could be set to redevelop Anfield, saying it is a "myth" that a new stadium will improve the Reds' financial fortunes.

The feasibility of building a new ground on Stanley Park has long been mooted by Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

But Henry says a new stadium is not vital for Liverpool's long-term future.

"A long-term myth has existed about the financial impact of a new stadium," he said in an email to theanfieldwrap.com.

"A belief has grown that Liverpool FC must have a new stadium to compete with [Manchester] United, Arsenal and others.

"No-one has ever addressed whether or not a new stadium is rational."

FSG is believed to have long favoured the remodelling of Anfield and was faced with a similar situation with one of their other clubs, the Boston Red Sox.

Aye, the Red Sox ground Fenway Park is as good testimony as any on why you don't necessarily need a new ground..Unless demand is vastly outstripping supply, which it isn't..
However.. I thought/still do think a stadium built on Stanley Park for both of us is the best way forward. *Hides*

The anfield wrap makes me sick. It's fronted by a racist and someone who insults young girls for their weight problems.

Dom Campbell is an absolute blert

I agree with you pal, as much as people want to skirt around the issue, a shared stadium would bring both teams closer to the Manchester teams. Most fans are stuck in their ways and refuse to share with "that lot" but I want to see this club of mine be successful - at ANY cost!!
I remember the 80s - where both Liverpool clubs were battling each other for the titles and trophies - good wasn't it?
Where are both teams now compared to the others? 7th and 8th in the league!!
I want those glory days back and if it means selling our soul to the devil then so be it.

That sounds like a backing off from the stadium issue. I expected that to happen, tbh. I said the other week when the local press announced the council were open to them refurbishing Anfield that it was all prpaganda whilst the Yanks were in town to take the heat off.

IMO, Fenway have no intention of laying down any serious roots at Liverpool and will look to sell up when/if the team start winning again and a sheik is attracted to buy them out.
