Cahill Dedicates Goal – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com - The Official Website of Everton Football Club
Tim Cahill dedicated his equaliser to the Everton fans after Monday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
The makeshift striker was in the right place at the right time for the Blues when he connected with a Mikel Arteta cross in the 88th minute.
The goal means that Cahill has now scored against Liverpool three times at Anfield - equalling Everton legend Dixie Dean's record.
But after the game, the Australian was more concerned with what the result meant to the fans.
Cahill said: "Has everyone started calling me Dixie? I don't know about that - to be honest, I'm more concerned about what the goal meant for our team and supporters.
"You work so hard chasing after defenders and great players like Steven Gerrard and we take great pride from getting a point because Liverpool are a great team.
"They deserve to be top of the league. We deserved a point and Pepe Reina deserves a lot of credit as he made a couple of world class saves.
"I thought I'd scored in the first half with a header but the spring on him to get to it was ridiculous. But we got there in the end and I am really happy for our fans."
Despite being jubilant after scoring his last-gasp equaliser, Cahill cut his goal celebrations short - and claims he was more focused on grabbing a winner in injury time.
"I'm lucky to have scored at Anfield three times now but I didn't want to get anyone in trouble by celebrating too much," said the former Millwall man. "I just wanted to see if we could score another."
"I didn't want to show any disrespect to Liverpool whatsoever.
"You get your rewards by working hard and keeping going. Our fans should enjoy this moment but so should Liverpool's - it was a draw and both sides deserved the point.
"We'll come back here on Sunday and we'll prepare the same way. We'll do what we think is right and we'll try to put right any mistakes we think we made."
