Cable vs Satellite

I sell and fit streamboxes on the side of my real job. they're flying out. People over here are sick of being ripped off.

Ok.

1) I've had Uverse for 24 hours and already love the larger amount of programming available for football fans. I picked the max channel package (450 or so) so I'm sure I get some of those channels with it. Just watched a 30 min bio on Andres Iniesta.

2) When DishTV asked why I dropped them, I told them. They couldn't understand that it wasn't a programming/channel issue that I wasn't subscribed to but that it was a group of channels that THEY have chosen not to offer to their customers when their competitors have. I think I used the words "Premier League Extra Time" at least three or four times and they still didn't get it.

3) Also loving the gee whiz ability of Uverse (wireless boxes, DVR in one room but watch in another, iPhone/iTouch can be used as a channel guide/remote, etc...)

So far so good.

Not that you'd ever use this feature, but you can actually plug a computer into the ethernet jack of a UVerse box and it'll act as a modem. I used to use it on a home theater PC at my parent's house instead of buying a wireless card for the thing.

No LOS, says the DirecTV installer, due to the neighbor's tree, which blocks approximately 7 of the 5 necessary satellites.

How does that movie end? I'll probably end up ordering Comcast, which will be delivered the day after the season opener I'm sure.

It ends with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long in a failed, hateful marriage in which the Comcast guy taunts them with 'two weeks' at every turn.

Nothing is cheap, and you have to pick the least worse option.

Comcast is horrible yet because my apt is under a tree (no satellite) I have to have it or no football or no college football. Lousy broadband speeds cost $55/mo here and there is nothing u can do about it w/o going dodgy wireless carrier set up. Cable/internet/DVR + a few extra sports channels run me $195/mo, way more than gas and electric combined for me.

This is how evil the cable/broadband service is in the US. We rank 33rd in broadband speeds but pay the most for service. I will give you one example: Fios had set up the lines to move in to the Baltimore market, they had already set up shop outside the city. Fios is defo a least worst option than comcast (because outside of prem coverage comcast is the devil). Only Fios stopped expanding coverage, why, well Comcast knowing that their service is even worse than Verizon would lose customers in droves decided to write Verizon a nice fat check every year to do nothing (a check paid for by comcast subscribers) because capitalism.

Really the monopoly of broadband/internet is every bit the drain on the ecomony that the phone industry monopoly was in the 70-80s and there is absolutely no impetetus on congress or the president to change the situtation. The industry has covered their bases well spreading money out to both parties. But hey a few people get to be millionaries and billionaries from the current situtation so its all good I guess.

Ordered DirecTV. They've been very pleasant so far, and except for the 2 cancelled/no show install appointments, its been great so far.
Did you go with the Genie? Late to the thread, but Directv was the smart decision just for Premier League Extra. Plus, with the Directv subscription you can watch matches on the NBC Sports app.

It looks like no line of sight. I'm still waiting for second opinion, confirmation, but it looks like I'll be buying Comcast.

Are you looking to put the dish on your roof? I had sight-line issues and ended up having the dish mounted on a 4'x4' post in my yard.
