Just thinking River Plate would be a bit like our neighbours across the park going down. Shame about their last owners and the fat waiter not being given the chance in following it through.

By next sunday we would know if they are down or not, they play 1st leg early thursday morning [uk time] and 2nd leg next weekend [sat] v Belgrano

The weird thing is river plate are 9th out out 20 teams

Argentina has a complex league system, and the relegation format is even tougher to understand.

Argentina divides its football year into two 19-game seasons - the Apertura from September until December, and the Clausura from February to June. At the end of both seasons, two teams are automatically relegated. Relegation is based on results over three years - or six seasons.

Cheers mate. Given the ungodly hour I'll be able to record it if one of the major sports networks have the rights to show it.
Do you know who has the U.K. rights to the Primera Division?

Not actually sure, always thought ESPN showed a few games from that league if they dont,i dont think anyone does

I went to the boca vs riverplate derby a month ago. It was unbelievable. The chants of "a la promocion" to the river plate fans (essentially "to relegation") were pretty relentless, and merciless.

and what ringmaster said, their league is ridiculously complicated. They relegate you based on your performance over years, it seems a bit mad.

The football from both sides was, interestingly, diabolical. Championship level.

How utterly retarded.

There was a River Plate / Everton fan who posted on here last year asking advice about his impending trip to Goodison.
Err thanks for thanks for the early warning. *hides in the cellar*
No seriously, I'm bit of a collector of vintage football shirts, but never got around to getting a River Plate one to supplement the Boca shirt I have.

Wow! Definitely one of my must do things before I leave this world, even if the football match is crap. The atmosphere alone must have been electric.

Agree with what Nik says, how retarded.
