Hibbert&Ernie
Player Valuation: £10m
Arteta, was 29 in March.
Beckford, 28 in December.
Yakubu, God only knows his age. Allegedly 28.
So they are gone, Moyes has only expressed sadness at losing Arteta, Arteta that handed in a transfer request!
I expected Beckford to stay and be given another season to find his premier league legs, seems 3 to 4 mill on a player we got for free was good business and to be fair at times his first touch would have been better made with a sledge hammer.
Yakubu, had wanted out for over 12 months, the bloke has form for throwing strops, has form for moving clubs after playing well then upsetting the boss.
That is it, they have moved on. Accept it and concentrate on what we have. Moyes has brought two loans in, the Argentine striker and the Dutch midfielder - Denis and Royston respectively.
Losing two strikers seems extreme but we got bugger all out of one and the other was found wanting, are we really that far behind where we were?
Arteta seems the one we will miss, but he hasn't had any form we would recognise as his best since his cruciate, this could be the time where Moyes makes significant changes and gives some other players an extended run.
If there has ever been a time for Bilyaletdinov to come good, this is it.
I see our forward options as Saha and Bily as one partnership, and Denis and Cahill the other. Former is the Aerial threat, later is football on the deck stuff.
I'd want to see Moyes make us hard to beat, a throw back to 04-05 when Carsley made himself guardian of the defence. How Drenthe is utilised is key, will he be a DM or a Left Mid holder of the ball allowing Baines overlaps and then covering for him if it goes tits up.
I mentioned the other day I would have liked to see Barton and Fellaini do the spoiling job for us, maybe Drenthe will be the other half of that pair instead.
So anyway, loads of wages off the books, a significant amount of cash into the coffers in terms of transfer fees (10 + 3 + 2 (minimum)) the squad age reduced significantly and some areas for some of the reserves to potentially step into.
Wish Arteta the best, even though he pushed the move through, wish Becks the best - he didn't quite cut it but i'm thankful for the important goals he got for us, and I don't wish anything bad for Yak.
Moyes let all three go, keep the faith in Moyes, and lets see how the two new faces settle in.
