Hibbert&Ernie

Player Valuation: £10m
Arteta, was 29 in March.
Beckford, 28 in December.
Yakubu, God only knows his age. Allegedly 28.

So they are gone, Moyes has only expressed sadness at losing Arteta, Arteta that handed in a transfer request!
I expected Beckford to stay and be given another season to find his premier league legs, seems 3 to 4 mill on a player we got for free was good business and to be fair at times his first touch would have been better made with a sledge hammer.
Yakubu, had wanted out for over 12 months, the bloke has form for throwing strops, has form for moving clubs after playing well then upsetting the boss.

That is it, they have moved on. Accept it and concentrate on what we have. Moyes has brought two loans in, the Argentine striker and the Dutch midfielder - Denis and Royston respectively.
Losing two strikers seems extreme but we got bugger all out of one and the other was found wanting, are we really that far behind where we were?
Arteta seems the one we will miss, but he hasn't had any form we would recognise as his best since his cruciate, this could be the time where Moyes makes significant changes and gives some other players an extended run.
If there has ever been a time for Bilyaletdinov to come good, this is it.
I see our forward options as Saha and Bily as one partnership, and Denis and Cahill the other. Former is the Aerial threat, later is football on the deck stuff.

I'd want to see Moyes make us hard to beat, a throw back to 04-05 when Carsley made himself guardian of the defence. How Drenthe is utilised is key, will he be a DM or a Left Mid holder of the ball allowing Baines overlaps and then covering for him if it goes tits up.
I mentioned the other day I would have liked to see Barton and Fellaini do the spoiling job for us, maybe Drenthe will be the other half of that pair instead.
So anyway, loads of wages off the books, a significant amount of cash into the coffers in terms of transfer fees (10 + 3 + 2 (minimum)) the squad age reduced significantly and some areas for some of the reserves to potentially step into.

Wish Arteta the best, even though he pushed the move through, wish Becks the best - he didn't quite cut it but i'm thankful for the important goals he got for us, and I don't wish anything bad for Yak.
Moyes let all three go, keep the faith in Moyes, and lets see how the two new faces settle in.

Agree with everything you say there mate...hopefully it makes us look a more attractive club to buy now...ie: less debt, lower wage bill etc....new ground needed and hopefully our kids come good, still potentially top 6 for us if all goes well. Moyes is a legend..always will be..lets hope we give him something to sing about over the next two years so he stays with us! COYB

What happens next season then?

More players will go, gamble on whether that money will be spent.

We've lost any strength as a club now, all our players are vulnerable and available.

Then there's the fact Moyes won't change how we play....

It'll get worse before it gets better

People seem to be forgetting that these two players are in on LOAN. So if Drenthe turned out to be some kind of Premier league wonderkid there would be nothing stopping him from going to another club, because his contract with Real Madrid is over next season anyway.

So basically we've sold three players and got two temporary replacements, it's like putting a plaster on a gunshot wound.

It can't be worse than Arsenal replacing Nasri and Fabregas with Benayoun and Arteta!

Im pretty sure we have taken over Drenthe's contract so depends how many years we have signed him too.

Plus if we get production from Bily and Rodwell as well as Barkley extablishing himself, then it won't feel as though we have lost much strength in depth. Arteta going could be a spark for us to change the way we play and get the best out of some other players i.e. Osman through the middle

beckford never looked good enough , settled or happy to be a blue. we got a good price imo.
yakubu , selfish useless overpayed , glad we got shot of him .but 1.5 million was daylight robbery though.
arteta was an everton great imo , to sell him without even replacing pienaar first is unforgivable . also for arteta to come out 2 weeks ago and say he was going nowhere just to turn around with an hour to go on transfer deadline day and demand a move just showed him up to be a selfish 2 faced rat imo. would love to wish him the best , but the timing of his demand means i couldnt give a toss what he does now.

like the 2 tranfers in tbh . think they will be ok.

but the message is now out , all everton players are for sale and why play for everton when we have no ambition and no hope.

i will go with what we have got and will back the manager and players .... the board and bill kenwright though are by far the worst thing ever to happen to everton , there not welcome at goodison park , i hope if they have the nerve to show up there again that they get totally crucified and i hope they all burn in hell.

Thats football mate. Anyone expecting loyalty from a player in this day and age is kidding themselves. They are bodies plain and simple and it works both ways.

Good post.

I don't think Drenthe will be DM though, he's a winger with pace to spare isn't he?

Agree with everything else mind.

Well said mate, people must start realising that we financially couldnt hold onto these loan players if they turn out to be stars. OH WAIT i forgot the plan, Kenwright will just loan another 2 and so on ;)

I really don't think that things are that bad, look at the situation at Newcastle and at some other clubs around. At least our chairman gives a toss about us, this is just an opportunity for all the "Kenwright Out" knobs to blame him for something else. Would you rather we were bought buy some mugs like the chicken farmer's at Blackburn, that is the day our club and what it stands for dies.

I'm a bit surprised the various groups of Kenwright dissent hasn't gone through with each and everyone buying themselves a homeshirt with Board Out on the back. Publicity stunt, and would be hard to shrug off if 1-2000 shirts were sold with the message. But I digress.

Claiming Beckford was never good enough is, to me, a joke. The man scored 10 goals after having made a move 2 divisions up to a new team that did nothing to accomodate his talents or style of play. I'm not saying he would score for fun in the Premiership, I'm saying he was the best alternative we had available in the squad for getting goals. 3 mil rising to 4,5 or whatever is just not good enough.
The Yak was someone I would have liked to see more of, but sometimes I guess you have to rely on your manager and he obviously did not want to utilise him. 2,5 is nowhere near enough, but the alternative of letting him rot in the reserves until he left on a free didn't exactly appeal either.
Mikky is probably the one transfer I can understand, even if I didn't feel it likely that Moyes would sell one of his favorites. I just wish it had been made earlier, not because I believe we would have signed a replacement but because I feel I needed some time to get used to the thought.

Hopefully we can sign Drenthe on a free or find someone similar for no money next summer. And get some cover in for our strike force. Or maybe that's where Joao Silva fits in..!
