Buying away tickets and not going the match!

I got tickets from someone who couldn't make it for Swansea and as a season ticket holder I can't get away tickets with the current credits system everton use. It's been my first this season and since about 2015 it's been impossible to get them. Fair play to people who buy away tickets and sell them face value but it really annoys me how it's impossible to get away tickets from everton now unless you have ridiculous amount of credits, yet at Swansea yesterday, there must have been 6 free seats to the right of me and plenty more empty seats. Some very passionate and loyal fans are unable to even get any away tickets and seats are going to waste! Come on evertonians, this should not be our way! Don't buy a ticket if you're not going to go just to get a credit because it's taking away experiences from fans who badly want them. Despite the result and performance It was good yesterday to have an away match experience again like the old days when it was easy to get tickets. Maybe the combination of fans wanting more credits for the big matches and the new cap on away tickets has made this an issue. Maybe a ballot for some of the games should be introduced or some games should not value a credit and perhaps then more fans are able to go. Any other thoughts how this can be helped e.t.c. ? COYB

I think qualifying for Europe has meant that some people have bought tickets for games like Swansea with a view to making sure they're near the top of the list when it comes to tickets for small grounds in Europe.

Also, Swansea's unusual in that it's a small ground so our allocation was only 2000, so it sold out quite early.

I'm aware, well told from what I consider to be a reliable source, that the club have looked at / are looking at ways of trying to ensure that tickets aren't bought purely to sell on and are actually used by the person who bought them. Actually talking about that and doing it are two different things, but, sometime over the next couple of years I wouldn't be surprised to see :-

  • Some away games where you have to pick your ticket(s) up on the day and provide ID to prove you're the person who bought it / them
  • A formal method of returning away tickets to the club for them to sell on if you can't make it
The former's been done by Man United occasionally and didn't go down too well with the fans, but did cut down on the reselling. United's situation is plainly different to ours though because a) they had / have an issue with fans considered to be behaving poorly at aways and b ) they're on a ballot system so away tickets were regularly going at quite a bit above face value, which isn't really an issue with us.

Have to admit, I'm not really a fan of a ballot for away tickets, but a few aways per season where it's first come, first served isn't a bad idea.

It's been proven on this site already (can't remember who by, but he had a brilliantly geeky spreadsheet to prove it), that if you started this season with a season ticket and zero credits, you could have built up your own credit history and gone to practically all the away games. Hopefully they'll re-post it.

Interesting. I'm guessing this is only possible if a fan got home cup matches?

And that is where the problem lies.

If people have to go every away game to ensure they go to the next, there comes a time when you can't make it but still buy the ticket for your credit.

It's a difficult position to resolve really. Empty seats are the last thing I want to see at away days.

Yepp.

I was annoyed i let someone down for Swansea. But unlike where I'm trying to build credits, I'm just trying to provide the opportunity for some fans who aren't local to go. I'm not ashamed of that. Some fans are less fortunate than myself, in that, they don't live within 10 mins of Goodison, so it's hard for them, and with aways rarely going to General Sale, i'm helping people out.

I'm not wanting to sound like i'm having a pop at the OP here, because i'm really not, however, my friend started off on 0 this season, and was able to successfully get to 16 credits by the end of the season (Arsenal included), but he has done Southampton, he has done Sunderland, he has done boxing day Leicester, so it really is a case of doing the hard yards to get yourself on the ladder, as you can do it!

You could have bought Yeovil, Norwich and Leicester tickets even if you weren't attending them, as Kids Obstructed View tickets, and set yourself back £12, yet had three credits. It's the small things!

Usual gripes here - it's not hard to go the aways - enough lads here have explained - we had three home cup games that banged you a credit a piece. Add the ones that went general sale and TV even a first timer got you to Anfield if you were a regular.

Coming on here bitching don't cut it with me - it ain't that hard. I get to go to most - Chelsea on a Saturday evening and getting spanked wasn't great. Stoke mid week, Sunderland in tv went general sale.

Go the games regularly and you can go to more - do the pick ups local, show ur ID...I don't care lad as I go but get ready to do hotels, time off work,TV changes train delays, motorway closures...and then watch us.

Don't complain.

It wasn't me who posted this by the way but the lad who did was spot on
Starting the season with zero credits, one could have gone to Yeovil (Cup), Sunderland, Norwich (Cup), Southampton, Leicester, Hull, Leicester (Cup), Palace, Stoke, Boro and Spurs already, which would leave you with 11 credits. The derby sold out on 10 credits. If you had been to all these matches and the derby, then next season you would be able to go to every game except Bournemouth and Burnley provided the credit requirement was the same.

You've missed the point of my post! People are buying tickets and not going to the games, leaving many empty seats for people who can't go to any aways. Why? My best bet is to get the away credits. It wasn't just a moan about not getting tickets but something needs to be done to stop people abusing the system.
I've just joined this site and wasn't aware that the cup games are that beneficial for getting credits. Didn't go to any this year to keep costs down but might have to save a bit more for home cup games and get the rewards of away days.

Good point

It was Swansea a few seasons back that first got me a foot on the ladder after getting my season ticket after years of not being able to go for work/money reasons

That and QPR, Sunderland etc, basically the games not a lot of people wanted to go to

That being said, buying a ticket and letting it go to waste isn't right

I've done it once, which was because I was ill and didn't fancy trekking to Newcastle while laid up. It was wrong of me but it was also kind of a last minute thing

I wouldn't buy an away ticket just for the credit, I'd want the ticket to be used

I think people are missing your point too. They are arguing the point that it is easy enough to get on the ladder (which I agree with), but your post seems to be referring to people buying a ticket and not showing up.

I went on Saturday and there was about 15 empty seats round me so I think you have a valid point (unless there was a specific reason as to why those 15+ didn't attend). If it's the case that they couldn't be arsed then they have denied 15 fans on say 10 away credits the chance to go because I am pretty sure Swansea sold out on about 12+ aways?
