Player Valuation: £100m
I'll start off by saying I hoped Mikel Arteta would be sold BUT I appreciate how much he's done for us during his time here and I'm sad to see him go.....thinking with my heart -- but thinking with my head i'll say again that Moyes needs to offload players to generate funds for both the bank and a new crop of young players.

Pienaar
Vaughan
Beckford
Arteta
Yakubu

All gone......the next wave out should be;

Yobo -- Turkey?
Cahill -- Same as Arteta
Bilyaletdinov -- Last season for us unless he delivers
Saha -- Contract up at end of the season
Anichebe -- Useless

........................Howard

Coleman......Jagielka......Heitinga......Baines

..................Fellaini........Rodwell

???.......................Barkley...............Drenthe

............................???

On paper that to me 'could be' the makings of a good side barring the 2 positions of striker and right midfielder.

Distin, Cahill and Neville will probably start to be phased out as squad players by the end of the season due to their ages/legs.

The next two transfer windows, the development of Rodwell and Barkley + the other young players coming through will most likely dictate our next few seasons in the league.

Big Victor looked so promising when he came on the scene, he was like a bull with talent knocking defenders all about.
Now hes a bit bigger he gets floored dead easy, don't know what happened to him.

Top strikers are very hard to come buy even for the minted clubs, you've discounted Denis without seeing him, who knows he could be a star

Once everyone's fit I'd like to see a positive lineup infused with youth. Something like:

Howard
Coleman Jags Distin Baines
Rodwell Fellaini
Barkley Osman Drenthe
Saha

Rodders needs to kick on and I think he's shown the most promise alongside Fellaini in a deeper CM role. Fellaini again has looked best without Arteta, and good with Rodders.

Barkley can play anywhere and as we're weak at RM I'd put him there. However I'd like to see Anichebe play there and play there with a bit of oomph. He's got it in him, he's just not lone forward material at the moment. But he does have a bit of pace and a lot of power and can do a shift at RM. Especially if he gets a run there and avoids injuries. If he can't make something of himself then we need to get rid.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bily behind the striker in Osman's role in that lineup, or even deeper at CM. With some confidence, a run in the side and some faith from the manager, I think he could become a player still. If not, then again, we need to get rid.

Coleman I want to see at RB ASAP. Yes he's not as wise defensively as Hibbert or Nev but he has PACE. They can all get forward but there's two crucial differences. The first is that Coleman can actually do something productive when he gets forward. The second is that Coleman has the stamina and pace to get back promptly, after getting forward. Plenty of teams have played younger, inferior fullbacks to Coleman and without a genuine right winger this is our best chance at some right flank width.

Up front we're horrendously limited. I'd like to see Vellios get a chance as he's looked a handful so far. Stracq I can't comment on. I just hope we don't see him and Cahill starting with a "hoof it up to them" game plan. Anichebe should not be playing up front in any capacity. Not until he's had a productive, confidence-bulding run in the one period he's looked remotely acceptable in; RM.

That looks to be a very good team -- however I'd be keen to see a younger couple of forwards up front -- which may be Velios and Denis....Osman and Distin for me should be phased out.....

Saha should start when fit mate. He's our best striker by some distance now.

Osman and Distin are old but were two of our best players last year. Unlike say Neville, they've not slowed down yet at all, and so phasing them out seems silly.

Two forwards doesn't necessarily make a more positive lineup. I was all for a 4-4-2 when we had Beckford and the Yak but now I don't see any combination of strikers that looks complimentary.

My problem with that line up, whilst its good, is that Saha will most of the time be out. So where will our goals come from? Unless the Argie is a revelation there are no goals in this team. Big mistake not getting a quality striker in and Moyes letting Beckford could backfire as Anichibe is mediocre at best.
We have lost our two most creative players in Pienaar and Arteta and removed any strikeforce. Whilst I have been trying to be positive, I now have this terrible feeling we may struggle badly.

Getting rid of Beckford was a bad move but one I think down to Moyes' refusal play with 2 strikers.

We'll just have to hope we're tight defensively and can get goals from midfield. Hopefully Saha can bag a few when fit and when not maybe Vellios or thie Argie can make their mark.

Spurs did okay last year without any big scoring forward. In fact all of their strikers had very poor records. VDV was their top scorer with a modest 11 or something in the league.
