Can anyone recommend a hotel or an apartment in Budapest preferably close the decent nightlife, nightlife where locals frequent aswel none of this upmarket touristy nonsense.

Also ay recommendations on things to do in the day will be appreciated.

Thanks

Cheers mate, I've already been on there but would like to know exactly where best to stay so am not messing around with dodgy taxis in the early hours of the morning.

great city. Head up to the jewish quarter and near the train station for the cheapest beer. Stay away from the 'london pub' in th city centre, charges at least 20 times the nomal cost of a pint and you have to run a tab. the puscis (sp?) stadium is well worth a visit. Excellent city split in 2...buda and pest. Enjoy

Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge Hotel.

Pure ace. Don't pay full rate though. Shop around.

Also go to this if you can. I recommend it.

Good luck mate, and like always, pictures and report back to base once mission complete.

You can buy a thing called the "Budapest Card" which includes free travel on buses, underground etc. and reduced rates for some museum entries, restaurants etc. Of the museums the one I enjoyed most was the Terror Museum. Its located in the old secret police head-quarters and is about life under the Nazi and Communist regimes. The building is where interrogations, prisoner torture and executions took place. I found it a fascinating place to visit and gives some idea of how brutal these regimes were and how they impacted on ordinary lives.
The old Jewish quarter is also well worth a visit, they have a Holocaust Memorial Centre that is very moving and focuses on what happened to Hungarian Jews during WW2.

Stayed at the Art Hotel which is on the river across from the Parliament building. Not exactly in the middle of the party district but was very nice with close access to the underground system.

Where is the party district?

We're just about to book an apartment near the Synagogue, on the Balisca side. Really looking forward to going it's a place I've wanted to go for years but always opted for somewhere else for one reason or another.

One of the nights we were there, we went to a place called Old Man's Pub which was recommended to us by an Hungarian bloke in work. Didn't know what to expect, but it reminded me a bit of the Cavern, far bigger than it looks from the outside, music based and downstairs was all brick etc. It had it's fair share of working girls it seemed.

One of the fittest girls I'd ever seen and her mate (also a stunner) offered me their services for the equivalent of £400 for one or £800 for the both of them!!

I'm fairly sure they were opening prices so to speak (if I even got the maths right in converting), but if the money had have been more realistic and i hadn't have just started seeing my Mrs at the time, it would have been hard to resist, given one was playing with my nipple and chewing on my ear while the other had her hand down my pants tickling my balls. Surprisingly took a bit of time to make my mind up.
