New era for the Champions League as BT Sport unveil Gerrard and Lineker as part of coverage after £900m deal to blow Sky away
  • BT Sport launch £897million Champions League coverage on Tuesday
  • Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard unveiled as pundit for channel
  • He joins Rio Ferdinand - ex-Man United star is announced as lead analyst
  • Gary Lineker also arrives at the channel as Champions League presenter
  • The broadcaster holds exclusive three-year deal to screen the competition
  • 351 matches, inclusing Europa League, will be free for BT TV customers
  • BT Broadband subscribers with Sky to be charged £5 a month
  • Harry Redknapp, Glenn Hoddle and Howard Webb also join broadcaster

Great. As if bushead Owen and the other RS muppets infesting the channel wasn't enough, they now go and recruit miserable arse as a pundit. Ive had this free with my cable package but mostly on mute because of them. At least the RS aren't involved....their ex player bores are more than enough to bear.

BT must have some sort of 'talent' share arrangement with the BBC. Explains why I had to suffer Phil Neville's commentary during a Schalke game a few weeks ago.

I wonder how many new subscribers it will bring them. Unless your club is involved how important is watching the Champions League when/if you have to pay?

Would be more than happy to see BT Sport bomb, same goes for Sky TV as well.

with everton not in europe i can see myself not getting this even if it is only a fiver, maybe wait 'til the knockouts

Havent Sky been laughing at them for how much they paid. They said something like no CL game ever gets into their top 25 most popular viewed games of the season and they'd never pay that much for CL coverage.

Basically as ever BT just like with dial up and then broadband and just like with mobile networks and now with sport tv as well as a whole host of other things in the past have turned up as the boats sailed and over compensated.

Their coverage of premiership footballs awful and miles behind SKY and even ITV, it's such a waste of money.

The best thing about BT Sport football coverage is the European Football Show, which is the best football show on TV. The rest? Not so much.

Just got an email from BT. If I want to watch the Champions League etc. it's now going to cost an extra £5 a month.

No thanks fellas. Just the phone from now on........
