This story about BT wanting to buy O2 has been around for a while, Telefonica would need to be offered silly money to sell though, Telefonica owe billions, they borrowed against future earnings to pay for 4G licences and expanding the network. They have been under pressure to repay some of what they owe, so they did sell O2 Ireland and they sold almost all of O2 Germany and O2 CR. They also sold O2 broadband to Sky.

O2 UK are the only part that is making money out of all the Telefonica companies.
